Seccion Amarilla Inexperienced Recruiters, Confrontational Interviewers, Risky Employment New York New York
I dont know how much you know about print and media adverting but its in a world of hurt. Rates and terms have not changed in decades. CBS made the never before heard of move of rebating advertisers for their inability to reach its target audience and most newspapers and magazines should consider the same before they send sales reps out to quote embaresing rates and unreasonable terms. I dont know weather to blame Sony Playstation, Microsoft X-Box Nintedno Wii or the whole internet, but people have much more diversions in 2008 than say 1978. When was the last time you cracked open a Yellow Book? Not in months or even years you say?
Well then head my warning about Seccion Amarilla. The Spanish Yellow Book.
I got a call from Jose at the W42nd Street office and he acted as if he needed my help. I have adverising agency experience and I posted up my resume on Career Builder. I made arrangements to see him later on that week. A few days later yet ANOTHER manager called to survey me for what I thought was a telephonbe interview, you know, to help move the process along. Imagine my suprise when she began explaning the same job Jose offered me. When I told her I aleeady SET an interview she just wished me good luck and hung up. No embaressmment, shame or apology.
On meeting day I called ahead to Maria the unreceptive receprionist as I was traveling 45-min to meet them, to confirm.
The concierge of the (renovated porn center) building I visited had me paiged.
Then I went up to the 5th floor and there was no bell and the door was sealed.
I called from my cell phone and Maria was laughing with delight at the bad connection. After 10 minutes of waiting and polite knocking I called again from my cell with the same "hilarious" result. I banged on the glass door with my knuckles and a scowling Manhatten sales manager answered.
He led me across the hall to Blue Equity - the back door of Seccion Amarilla and Jose indicates that he is not ready to see me despite his having picked the day and time. Instead the sour-pussed Manhatten sales manager was pushed into a room with me and I was interrogated like I was there to date his daughter.
Then he described the following terms. $500 for a 50-60 hour work week.
$1500 in sold monhly advertising in the first three months or the agreement is cancelled and get this...he did not even have an offer for me!!!
So be forewarned. If you get a call from Seccion Amarilla, they have no clue what they want or who they are looking for.
