To make a very long story short, I bought a 1-year "accident coverage policy" on my computer laptop purchase from Newgg.com. The computer broke 1 day after purchase date, but two days before I received it.
Service.net claimed it wasn't under their warranty due to time. One day after purchase. Several issues there.
One, being the obvious thing that a laptop (or anything else for that matter) IS insured for accidents/breakage through the shipper, so "one year" has to be from the date of receipt. I made it a point to ask the supervisor how I would make such a claim if it were damaged during shipping? The answer was simple: "You wouldn't."
Therefore, their warranty is misleading at best and an outright lie at worst. They, like everybody else, bury this fact in a huge legalese document designed NOT to be read; I've also been an insurance agent in the past and left the industry EXACTLY because of B.S. like this.
Not only that, newegg.com gave me incorrect information on how to ship it out for service. I am on SSDI, and paid $60 for shipping and only today, TWO WEEKS LATER, do I get a call from Acer about they're not covering it. They don't even service that plan.
So, Newegg gives me incorrect info to service the warranty THEY SOLD, and it sure does look like it might have been done to make sure my product was well-outside of the warranty period now as a result because it took over a week to hear from Acer that it was shipped to the wrong place and declined coverage.
Meanwhile, here I am wondering how they can call it a "one-year accident warranty" when, in reality, it's one year minus transit time, when it's already insured to begin with.
It's just another way for an insurance company to make you bend over when you have the audacity to actually trust that they'll live up to their simple statement.
One year is NOT one year. My advice is to NEVER EVER get these things because it's more of a hassle than it's worth, not to mention the fact I'm now out $120 and my laptop PC is halfway across the country with me being broke (disabled) and no way to get it back. I'm contacting Newegg, the seller, right now online to see if they'll make things straight. If not, I'll file a complaint about their poorly-directed "service" as well. It is ONE BIG LIE that it's a one-year protection plan because the item(s) aren't even in your possession from when they "start counting," and could EASILY be avoided if that's made clear at the TIME of purchase. All they care about is soaking consumers for money and not dealing with people honestly!
