Skylight Marketing False promises of franchise ownership, poor pay, not travel expenses. Edinburgh United Kingdom
This job started with a group interview in a dingy basement office. We were told about the product we would be selling (XLN Telecoms) and the training ('The Academy').
Once offered the job, we were introduced to our 'trainers', who had only been doing what we were about to do for 2/3 weeks. We were then sent out to do door-to-door sales, with no money for travel expenses.
We were told that the pay was fortnightly, so we would get paid after 2 weeks, if we left before we got nothing. After my 2 weeks I got my 'pay' and discovered that you don't actually get paid for your first week.
On top of this, I was asked to work weekends to make up my numbers. I calculated that, from the amount I was paid vs the hours I had worked over 2 weeks I was being paid around 2 p/h! This was whilst I was paying out nearly 100 a week in petrol from being sent all around Scotland.
Skylight Marketing stress that they want honesty from you, but they are extremely dishonest. They also claimed they were 'moving offices soon', which may not have happened as I left after my third week there.
Promises were made of '8 weeks in The Academy and then you'll get your own franchise'. The reality is, they keep you working for them after 8 weeks to see whether you CAN run your own office...So they might decide that you can't after 8 weeks of door-to-door on rubbish pay! Even if you do get a franchise, the area will probably have already been covered by this office and you'll never make the money they say you're going to make.
