Due to our stressful experience with the State of Georgia Insurance Commissioner's Office, I would strongly suggest to all readers, that they do their reach Before buying Insurance with Any Company.
BECAUSE - if your insurance company denies your claim, and you file a complaint against that Insurer with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner, your Stress Level will certainly double !!!
Before we go into our sad story, let me tell you what will happen when you file a claim against your insurer with this -Insurance Friendly - State Agency:
1.) Your claim will be assigned a case number and you will get a form letter stating that they are looking into it. This letter will come from a "so called" Investigator - Consumer Service Division.
That title is nothing but a JOKE, because that Investigator is NOT on the side of the public.
2.) They will send a copy of your complaint to the Insurance Company. The company, like Traveler's Insurance, will make up a bunch of lies as to why they denyed your claim.
3.) The Investigator will believe THEM - NOT YOU!. You will then get another Form Letter stating that - basically - The Insurance Company is right in Denying your Claim. The letter will say that, They are Sorry for Your Disappointment, and Thank You for Bringing the Matter to Their Attention.
This is BULL, if I ever heard it.
The pure and simple facts here, is that the Georgia Insurance Commissioner - Ralph T. Hudgens, is elected to this job.
He has been the Insurance Commissioner for a number of years. He recently got re-elected, by an overwhelming majority in November, 2014. He ran against a fine woman, named Elizabeth Johnson - a woman who would have been more on the side of the people.
The reason why Mr. Hudgens got, so easily, re-elected, is because his campaign was bankrolled by the Insurance Companies themselves. So guess whose side he will be on? Not the Public.
OUR STORY:
We had a homeowner policy, with Traveler's Insurance back in 2013-2014. We filed a claim for water damage.
They sent an adjustor, and the claim was denied.
We tried to reason with Traveler's Insurancem, but got nowhere.
We filed a complaint against Travelers with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner back in August, 2013. We got a form letter from some Investigator named Eddie Washington, who assured us he would look into the matter.
To make a long story short, Mr. Washington sent our complaint to Traverler's Insurance. It was answsered by some corporate man named Charlie Culverhouse. Mr. Culverhouse wrote a reply to Mr. Washington, basically denying the claim again and saying they were justified in doing so.
Sometime in September, 2013, we got a letter reply from Mr. Washington saying that Traveler's had a right to deny our claim and he was "sorry" for our disappointment.
That was all. Case Closed.
I tried calling Mr. Washington, to complain about this denial, and accused him of being on the side of the Insurance Company. He became angry and told me he was going to hang up the phone on me.
That was it. I ask you, dear readers, since the Insurance Companies bascially Elect the Commissioner, and bankroll his campaign, whose side do you think, the Insurance Commissioner and their employees are going to be on?
The Insurance Companies. That is Correct!
They know who will condone their denial of claims and - as long as that person is in office - they have nothing to worry about.
The Georgia Insurance Commissioners Office's policy is:
1.) The Insurance Companies have a right to deny your claim.
2.) The Insurance Companies have right to make a profit.
(Notice how your homeower rates rise even if you do not file a claim)
3.) The Insurance Companies have a right to advertise.
(Notice how many Expensive Television Commericials some Insurance Companies have - using Movie Actors and NFL Quarterbacks).
In summary, there is NO WAY TO WIN - for the public, with the Georgia Dept. of Insurance. Take my advise and do not bother filing a complaint, unless you want to get ulcers from doing so.
Hire a competant attorney. One that will not steal your money, like mine did.

Progressive refused to pay the balance of my car when their insured total it in 2003. Their insured backed out of a driveway and into me the street I was traveling on. I had the right of way any time you're backing out of a driveway you're supposed to wait and let cars pass before you back out! I had to file a lawsuit in their county where they lived and what a surprise they were friends with the judge.
They took pictures of their back bumper and the judge got an attitude with me about white paint on their truck bumper. Their adjuster tried to blame me that I should have stopped but his manager overruled him, but Progressive still fought to pay. It was not fair they had a lawyer and the insured driver and adjuster was already talking to the judge well before we got there that was very unfair to us.
In the meantime, I was being harassed by my finance company. Of course, after we had court and told how she backed into me the judge ruled in their favor but we were suing progressive. The even admitted to the judge that their insured was a fault.
We did get progressive to settle and my finance company for $5,000. We were put through a nightmare and the judge should have recused himself and we should have been able to file the suit in my county where I lived.
Then their smart mouth lawyer had the nerve to ask me what was I doing there! That was none of his business could go anywhere I want to and he had no right to speak to me that way. Well, progressive did end up settling and nothing that crooked criminal judge or lawyer could do about it! But I'm still angry about how I was treated!
Don Cameron made things worse when he would talk over me when I was trying to tell him my side of the story. But he falsely accused me of yelling and screaming at him so the other people in the insurance commissioner office would believe him!
Progressive lawyer crossed the line in how he spoke to me! And how the judge took their side because he was friends with them! I was all alone with no lawyer! But I was able to get a new car from they paid for the damages. But they totaled out the car so I wasn't going to be left without something to drive! They are crazy!

I am the one, WORD TO THE WISE, who wrote the original rip off report about The Georgia Department of Insurance and how they basically dismissed my complaint against Traveler's Insurance out of hand.
It seems that such consumer complaints go to this Eddie Washington, whose job it is to Deny the validity of consumer complaints and side 100% of the time with the insurance company.
As a matter of fact, if you call the Georgia Department of Insurance and ask if there has been any complaints against a certain insurance company, the answer will ALWAYS be that they cannot give out such information.
Unless there has been disiplinary action taken against the insurance company (WHICH THAT IN ITSELF IS RARE) they will not tell you if there has been a complaint. For example, let us say there are 10 complaints against an insurance company, and all 10 are dismissed out of hand, MAGICALLY, there will be no record that such complaints ever existed.
This is simply a CATCH 22 SITUATION and a BAD JOKE on the citizen.
Finally, the readers would do well to remember, that most State Agencies are rarely on the side of the consumer. They protect the offending company and cause great fustration for the citizen who made the complaint.
In fact, one will find, that these agencies often have CONTEMPT for anyone daring to file a complaint against any company.
I Stand on the Side of the People.
Yep GADOI is a paid off State agency

The person "A WORD TO THE WISE" who complained about GA Ins. Comm. is exactly correct about their experience with the agency. Addititonally there is no agency to complain to about the GADOI not protecting the consumer. If you complain the agency accepts EVERY SINGLE THING the insurance company responds with no matter how many lies they tell about the complaintants situation. He's right the GADOI has their only interest in supporting the companies not the consumer.
First time I send them an issue was the Allstate rate hike business in 2016. Hudgens talked so big and bad about promising the consumers he would investigate. Allstate stated to the open media they would do as they pleased--which is EXACTLY what they did. I questioned how ALLSTATE could raise rates arbitrarily on some customers while still providing coverage to drivers who did not even have licenses--which for some odd reason I thought was illegal in Ga. Filed the complaint; GADOI just sent all my proof to Allstate; Allstate responded they had the right to cover whomever they pleased regardless of their DL status and for me to go mind my own business! GADOI immediately closed the complaint and told me to mind my own business as well! WHAT? Yep, it was the same sorry examiner Eddie Washinton as the article in the RIPOFF REPORT I am commenting about. And he was just as rude to me as the complainer related he was. (Of course the GA ATTY Gen. office never responded to my complaint about GADOI.) Allstate finally canceled coverage after I sent all the letters to the news media and they started ansking what was up.
Next exposure to GADOI was about a possible false insurance claim (Travelers) and some checks forged with my name on them. I filed my complaint and supporting docs, which GADOI promptly sent to Travelers. Of course insur responded with alot of twisted false statements, even admitted they would not clean up all the inaccuracies they have put on my credit/consumer report and would hold up the criminal investigation surrounding the forged checks if I chose to persure my complaint. The GADOI immediately took TI statement and CLOSED my complaint without even giving me the opportunity to respond!
So yes there really is a problem with a so-called consumer protection agency being paid by the GA taxpayers who always takes the side of the insurance companies.
