3 years ago I rented a u-haul in Florida to move back to Texas. Going through the u-haul web site they sent me to some scary gas station where I signed some paperwork, paid for the rental and was told to help myself to whatever trailer I wanted. With no help hooking it up I went on my way.

After loading the trailer we started of to Texas. No more than 30 minutes into our drive the trailer began to shimmy and swing wildly. It pulled our Chevy Tahoe off the road and flipped it. The car was totaled yet thank God, no one in my family was injured.

U-haul came and took their trailer back as soon as the accident was reported. Because of their prompt action no investigation could be done to see if faulty equipment lead to the incident. Upon going to u-haul to inquire about my belongings they told me it would cost me $3214.86 to even look at my stuff. The $3000 bill was to pay for damage to the trailer. I was emotionally exhausted in trying to move, have the life of my family flash before my eyes so agreed to pay for the repairs. Of course nothing in the trailer was salvageable. So I am out lots of furniture, a Tahoe, $3000 plus rental fee, airline tickets for my family.

We move to TX and think we are done with the event. A few months later I get letters from someone claiming to be an insurance company saying they paid u-haul for the trailer and I owe them three grand. Having never heard of this insurance company and getting letters with microsoft office template as official stationary, I assume it is a scam and disregard.

2 years later my credit report gets whacked and Stewart Allan starts calling me. The first few phone calls were very hostile- you are a deadbeat, you don't pay your bills, do we have to take you to court. Never referring to what bill or to what amount I owe and every time I ask just saying the wreck you were in. I kept calm during the harassment stage and a new girl called to try the nice approach.

I had to find receipts and other proof from 3 years ago so I sent them a certified letter to have them follow all procedures outlined in the fair credit reporting act and to cease and desist all phone calls. I have not heard from them since the receipt of the letter yet the credit agencies are still reporting collections.
