I received similiar treatment - violated by this unethical company that I hired to keep me and my family from being violated. I was a six year customer that had more than honored my contract and when I was transferred, I was told that I had just missed by a couple of weeks an auto-renewal and if we didn't pay for a full year of unneeded service that our credit would be trashed.
Kevin Allen of SDS (referred by the BBB website) was of no help and inflamed the situation. He questioned my integrity, belittled me, and actually encouraged me to bring it on w/ these complaints. He is so rigid to the minutia of his contract that he is willing to screw over a loyal customer to bring in a few more bucks - not even having the understanding of how much revenue he will miss from would-be customers that never will be after he made it personal and acted unprofessional and unethical.
This is the worst customer service I have ever had and would suggest that all others go elsewhere. Six years and this is how they treat me!!!

"SDS does not require a customer to pay $1 more than they promised to in writing." This is why their salesmen purposely leave out the part about the automatic yearly renewal.
The first I had heard of this contract clause is when I tried to cancel my account. The saleman that came to our house 4 years spoke repetitively about the 36-month agreement, yet no mention was made of a yearly contract afterwards. This has all the makings of a scam. I too was a great customer. I never had a complaint with the company, and was signed up for automatic monthly payments, which were made on time every month for 4 years. I am currently building a new home, and we decided to go with the builder's security company for the many amenities offered. However, upon calling SDS, they informed me that my contract renewed 2 months ago and that I would have to pay the monthly rate of $31.49 X 10 months = $314.90.
After looking over the contract, it is in there, in very tiny print, on a piece of paper that is hard to read even in electronic form with the Adobe Acrobat zoom feature enabled. We were never told about this feature of the contract by SDS on purpose, as the same can be said of ALL of their customers (after reading many other reviews of this company).
If you want to do business with a company that offers cheap service, then go with SDS. They have a great low monthly rate. But you do get cheap service. The few times our alarm went off while we were home, it took over 30 minutes sometimes for SDS to respond. And then there's the criminally cheap, and altogether unhelpful customer "service" as well.
They are not Superior. They can barely Detect. There is very little value to their System. They have to prey on new customers because of their "rope-a-dope" contract tactics. I consider myself a dope...I fell for SDS. Maybe I'll make myself a T-shirt to remind myself in the future to not be stupid and read ALL future contracts instead of relying on the honesty of a salesman.
