Last month I received a charge on my verizon bill for 17.44. I called the number on the the verizon statement and it was supposed to get removed. I never ordered suresafe internet and they put it on my bill. I checked my new bill for this month and there it is again. This has never happened before. Who authorized Verizon to put any charges on my telephone bill. I'm going to continue to call until they remove it. Hilda

The only problem with your statement. A few years ago when we were hit by the Solomon Islands scam I was told by Verizon that theyt could place a block on my line so that none of these sorts of charges could be attached. The story I got from Verizon was that they can place a block on your line but only if you request it and only after you have already been hit with a fraudulent fee. I placed the so-called block on our line and did not experiencd the problem again until now. So what happened to the block or was Verizon just feeding me a line? By the way, I did speak with both IDL and SureSafe. I was promised a refund that will "take several billing cycles to show up on my invoice". I have since received my next Verizon bill which, low and behold has another charge on it. I have deducted the charges, tax included from my payments. If Verizon forwards the money to them it is their problem to get the refund now. Verizon needs to address it's regulatory requirements to the local legislatures if they are so opposed to adding these charges. What if anything is being done to that end on their part?

It is my understanding that in any state where Verizon owns the local lines (like NY or PA as the old Bell Atlantic) they do not have a choice in allowing companies to add their bills. I may be wrong, but I believe there is a regulatory restriction that allows other companies to add their charges to the "local" (in this case Verizon) bill and Verizon has no more information on the charges or the billing company than the customer does. It is unfortunate that Verizon cannot refuse to allow billing for the "services" because it reflects badly on them, but I am pretty sure that is why they do it, and why the Verizon rep has no ability to discuss, explain or credit the charges.
