On Friday evening (Nov. 10th) I placed an order online for a Canon A620 digital camera from thedigitalexpo.com. I received a receipt which stated I had to call their toll free number (1 800 957 6628) to confirm my order. Since it was after hours, and they were not open Saturday, I phoned Sunday afternoon. The person I spoke with seemed nice at first, but then he said the camera didn't come with a memory card and did I want to purchase one? I asked my husband and he said we didn't need to buy one yet. When I declined the offer to purchase a memory card, this person said that I was being rude and they didn't tolerate rudeness there. He asked again if I wanted the memory card; when I again declined, he said that that was the wrong answer and repeated the remark about my being rude. I said did he mean that unless I said yes, that I could not purchase the camera. He said again that I was being rude and they didn't tolerate rudeness. At this point, I was really upset and said I would cancel my order. He replied I would be charged a 20% cancellation fee. I said I didn't think so since he wouldn't let me buy only the camera. He replied that they had my credit card information and could do anything they wanted. I said I am putting you on speaker phone so my husband can hear this whereupon he promptly hung up.

My husband called and spoke to someone there who said my order had been cancelled because it was a refurbished camera. (This was the first I had heard about the camera being refurbished). My husband said wasn't that misleading because nowhere on their website does it say anything about refurbished. The person hung up. I never would have ordered the camera in the first place if there were any mention of it on their website as being refurbished.

I immediately called my credit card company and discussed the situation with a customer service rep who suggested cancelling my card, which I did.

I personally think they make their living from their "cancellation fees" I have filed a complaint with the Texas State Attorney General and the BBB.
