The Miele Vacuum was 1 1/2 yrs old and did not power on.
The 1st quote for repair was $169 to "install a NEW cord reel."(miele vacuums have a spring loaded cord rewind system)but the salesman said he will take $50 off since we did not have it very long, and do it for $119
So I said go ahead, and oh by the way , can I have the old cord reel back .after 5 min , there was a call back .. .. oh .. maybe a misunderstanding... they would "rebuild" the existing reel.
Never admitted lying about new reel, and didn't say what rebuild would include, except a new cord. So I said no I will pick it up. Then price went to $80.
I said I will install a new cord and fix the contacts on the reel myself. then they wanted to sell a new cord. $40
I said no thanks and took it home and ran my testing equipment on it and cord was in perfect shape.
I then noticed that it needed a spacing washer to hold it against the contacts as the reel turns. so I put a 5 cent GARDEN HOSE WASHER on it and it works absolutely perfect. a spacer must have fell out or been missing from factory.
So I would have been charged $119 for a new cord and spacer, when
A. it doesn't even need a new cord. and
B. I was lead to believe it was a whole new cord reel assembly.
It was labeled a "misunderstanding" on our part, until I told him he may want to listen to proof of what his salesman told us.
