They arent designed to last more than a couple years these days. If you get 2 years out of one you are doing good. Your battery needing to be replaced is common, that will happen with any laptop. Also, you must not have shopped very hard to find an AC adapter. I've had 5 or 6 go out on various laptops and you can find a replacement for under $20. Try amazon or ebay. As for the problem with your daughter's laptop, are you sure it was a manufacturing defect and not misuse? I has one of these ports go out on a laptop, and it was from the way I used the laptop.
I do have a question for you, you are upset that the warranty doesn't go beyond 1 year, why didn't you purchase an extended warranty for the machine? As for the apple comment, it detracts from your whole report. Apple products are no better than any others on the market. You'll pay more for them, have more expensive repairs, and are stuck with proprietory products and software. Would I but a toshiba? No, probably not. I know its alow quality laptop, and two years is about all I would expect out of one.
