I decided to go back to school in December. I requested information from several online schools. The University of Phoenix counselor contacted me and convinced me to sign up before Dec, 27 2005.

My counselor stated that my book fees would be waived and my tuition would only be $750.00. I sign up for the Gen 300 class. I secured a student loan and completed the Gen 300 class.

I noticed that billing on the student web site was posted at $1425.00. I called my counselor Shelley ---

and asked her why I did not receive the discount ($750)that she told me about in December. Shelley informed me that the discount takes time to show up on the student website billing.

I took two classes and decided to drop out after the second class. I travel quite a bit and I could not keep up online.

The University refused to give me my discount. I sent e-mails to Jenica Barnes with the price statement of fees that Miss ---- sent me. Miss ---- refused to correct the fincial charge and sent my account straight to the University collection Department.

I receved a threatening letter in the mail from the UoP collection Dept. My transcripts will be withheld until I pay the University in full.

Beware of the deceptive recruiting practices by this University.

Kevin, My name is Donald and I work at the Pasadena ground campus in the Finance department. Before that I used to work in the Online department in finance as well. My first question is if you are in the military or otherwise qualify for a military discount. The reason I ask is that the cost of classes is normally $475 per credit unless you qualify for the military discount. With the discount all 100-200 level classes are discounted to $250 per credit and all 300-400 level classes are discounted to $380 per credit. The exception to this discount is the entry class of GEN/300 that is discounted to the lower division rate of $250 per credit. If you are Active Military then did you use Tuition Assistance? Was the tuition paid off by your Education office? If you did not use Tuition Assistance then the school requires some other form of proof of Active Service such as your military ID to qualify you for the discount. Talk to your enrollment counselor or finance counselor to ensure that you have been coded for a Military discount if you rate it. Although the discount can take some time to be reconciled via the invoices sent out, it should be coded in your record from the time you first enrolled.
