Verizon Wireless Ripoff $175 Termination charged wrongfully Seattle Washington
Back in November/December 2004, I called Verizon Wireless to complain about the poor coverage at my home. Customer Service said they would send technicians to check the area. A few weeks later they called and confirmed the marginal coverage in my area.
Through several telephone calls to Customer Service (different people), they told me that I could cancel my contract (1 yr left) and they would waive the $175 termination fee. They asked me to fax a copy of my utility bill to confirm my residence. I did as they instructed. Along with my utility bill was a summary of the customer services' promises of waiving the termation fee.
After Christmas vacation, I decided it was time to cancel, and I joined Cingular for a 30 day test. It was a good time to switch because I was going a business trip for a couple of weeks and I could test it in the places I travel.
When I returned, I received a letter stating that they would not waive the $175 termination fee. Ugh! I called Customer Service, now 5 times or so, to discuss this - talking to supervisors and managers, but they would not stand behind the Customer Service reps promise to waive it.
In desparation, I have also sent in several letters to Verizon Wireless looking for better recourse. Each letter received a response indicating they would not waive the fee as the other Customer Service reps promised.
My $175 bill is 44 days overdue now, and I do not know what other recourse I have. At 120 days, they will send it to collections. My credit score is now 782, and I am not sure how it will impact it.
