Wingate Inn treats all their employees like crap. In our handbook it states that front desk employees ar eintitled to a 30-60 minute lunch (food) break somewhere in our 8 hour shifts.
But it also says that it is at mananger's approval, the problem comes when the managers never approve of us sitting to eat. We have to stand at the front desk to eat.
We are only allowed a break if you are a smoker and even then , there really is no break. You are not allowed to sit down at pretty much any time during your shift.
There are no stools or chairs allowed at front desk for times where we are not busy. Our manager will tell you that at no ime during the shift should you not be working on something, and if you can't find somethig to do she'll fins something for you.
Also, we are not allowed any form of over time. Even if you pick up a shift for someone who is sick or unable to come to work. They will cut your hours for next week.
Our managers are also doing something that I believe is illegal (someone correct me if I am wrong). I do believe that over time goes by how many hours you work in one week not 2 even if you are on a bi-weekly pay period. Meaning over 40 hours in 7 days is overtime.
Here it is anything over 80 hours in 2 weeks is overtime, which they have carefully calculated against.
This is not exclusive to front desk employees, but housekeepers, and maintence men as well.
We are all denied raises, because god forbid it vome out of the little kick back our managers get at the end of the year.
If you upset a manager, your hours are cut of you are stuck with hours that no one else wants.
They are unwilling to work with the students that are employeed here. They refuse to compromise and they are unwilling to meet industry standards for employee treatment.
This place is also very judgemental about the kind of person you are. They play favorites and they play their litte political games.
They treat the african american employess like slaves, or unequal to them, beneath them. They treat our one gay employee like she is odd, different or bad and they highlight her mistakes more than other people's. They treat me, the black haired tattooed girl, like I am a freak, although I looked like this when they hired me.
They don't even realize that they treat us so badly. We have voiced complaints and asked for changes, but there have been no improvements. In fact, the treatment of those who voiced the complaints has gotten worse.
I have a good friend that worked there for a while and never heard anything like that going on except for lazy people complaining. Perhaps this was you.
