I understand that you incurred a loss here, but I am at a loss as to how you made the determination that your insurance company should be responsible for either replacing a roof that has reached the end of its service life or for finishing work left undone by an unethical contractor, hired by you. I'm sympathetic to your misfortune, but this all sounds self-inflicted.

This post is too weird. Either I'm confused or the person who posted is. Norman contracted with an unauthorized, unlicensed, unprofessional(cheap) roofing company to replace his commercial establishment's roof. The roofing company didn't replace his roof. He filed with everybody. Nothing comes of it so he deceides to file under his homeowners ins. 6 months after his roof is gone, his tenants move out, wonder why, and he stops making house payments. 18 or so months later the bank forecloses on his house and sells it at auction, go figure. And, his major complaint is with his ins. company about a 29 year old roof that has a life of 30 years. I think if anything, Norman should be posting the name of the roofing company. Not trying to screw the ins. company out of a few dollars.
