Frankly, after reading this report, I am very angry. Reporting his own experience is one thing, but for him to make inferences about hypnotherapy during birth, something he can never begin to understand the mysteries of, is absolutely asinine behavior. I employed Evelyn at Absolute Hypnotherapy as my doula for the recent birth of my daughter. During my labor, she successfully put me under hypnosis in order to help me endure my contractions. Everyone in attendance, (another doula, my boyfriend, my midwife, nurses, and a resident) were astounded at the success of the hypnosis. While under hypnosis, I hardly made any sounds. The contractions at that point in my labor were quite strong, and others in the room can attest to this fact because I was still on the monitors. They could watch the intensity and frequency of my contractions, while I barely felt them. During hypnosis, I had no other pain management, but felt next to nothing. Not only did the hypnosis help me attain a level of peace and calm untypical of most hospital births, it helped those around me attain the same thing. Above all, my boyfriend's anxiety over the birth completely dissipated, as I was no longer in pain. Prenatal visits with a doula are not in any way gynecological. It is basically conversations in preparation of the birth. During my prenatal visits with Evelyn, she performed hypnosis on me twice. Once was to alleviate my fears and introduce a sleep suggestion, and the other was to help my baby turn the right way. Both times were met with success. After the sleep suggestion, which any pregnant mother can describe their lack of sleep, I slept longer and more deeply than I had in months. The hypnotic suggestion also helped me to let go of my senseless fears about my upcoming birth. I simply didn't dwell on them any longer after the hypnosis. With the baby turning hypnosis session, that night I felt my baby turning inside of me, and for the next few days, she was very active, and in the right position. All of my prenatal visits with Evelyn were at her house, in the cozy front parlor, where she conducts her business. Her house is always impeccably clean and tidy. It is not in a bad neighborhood, and is in fact only a block or two away from an elementary school. While the house may be close to the street, I have been there at all hours of the day and never been bothered by the small amount of traffic that does pass by. The street in question is off from a main road and not a common thoroughfare. Evelyn in fact has 4 pugs, but she schedules doggie daycare when she conducts a session. When a session is rescheduled, she cannot always make immediate arrangements to then reschedule the doggie daycare. Her fee schedule is in no way ambiguous, and is always presented to a client in writing. If there are any questions, they should be asked. All together, Evelyn's hypnotherapy worked very well for me, and I would strongly recommend her.

I am registering strong support for Absolute Hypnotherapy (http://www.absolutehypnotherapy.com), located in Brewer, Maine. I have been a client of Evelyn's for several months and have undergone hypnosis for treatment of stress and lifestyle issues. I have experienced and administered deep hypnosis sessions for over fifteen years. I know what I'm talking about. Hypnotherapy - getting in touch with your subconscious mind - is not for the disinclined. If you are unwilling to let go of the world around you and be guided by your therapist, you will not succeed. In specific rebuttal of the claims listed 2/8/2008 by a disenchanted client, I applaud Evelyn's techniques wholeheartedly. As with any good therapist, she encourages her clients to let every outside noise guide them deeper and deeper into hypnosis. Any noises the person complained about should have helped him accomplish that, had he been willing to focus on what Evelyn was directing him to do rather than look for a reason to be unsuccessful. Perhaps that is part of his problem with insomnia. As to her practice of working from her home, I find it delightful to be in an antique house, built over a hundred years ago and kept in perfect condition. Her therapy room is restored to its original condition, with modern furniture, including an incredibly comfortable reclining chair for the client. Evelyn always supplies me with a blanket, as she knows how cold i get under hypnosis. Her dogs, when they are home during my sessions, are located at the far end of her house. Their noise is minimal, and as I stated earlier, only serve to deepen my hypnosis. In conclusion, Evelyn has always made me feel safe, warm and comfortable during my hypnotherapy sessions. I know that she is working with me, helping me to achieve my goals with care and wisdom. I applaud Evelyn's fine work and am pleased to have her in my life. I suggest to the dissatisfied customer that the problems with his session lie with him, not with his therapist. I suggest he look inward for the problems in his life and focus on releasing his negativity. You draw to you what you project. If you insist on being dissatisfied, you will find dissatisfaction everywhere you look. The universe will gladly send you all that you want. Do better.
