ADR Sewer and Drains in Chicago - Owner - Randy Adkins Lied, Swindled, Damaged Property, Non-Professional, Shadey, Crook Chicago Illinois
The owner of ADR (Randy) was hired on 5 June 2014 to rod out my sewer and clean the catch basin. He told me it would cost $200.00. Once he gained access to my basement on 6 June 2014 he informed me that he could not rod all the way through and that I had broken tiles that prevented rodding to the city sewer system. He stated that the sewer lines underneath my basement foundation were all backed up and clogged, and that I needed a cleanout station installed in my front lawn to get them unclogged before they caused damage to my foundation and flooding in my basement. Cost would be $4000.00, but he would only charge me $3200.00 plus the $200.00 for rodding.
He was doing the same job for my neighbor and being that I have used him in the past for rodding I agreed to get this done. The job took several days to complete. When I checked on my catch basin to ensure they closed it when they left the first night I found that the insulation from my crawlspace wall was removed from the wall and thrown into the catch basin clogging it up. When questioned about this Randy denied that he had done that and said he would clean it out at no charge. When he came back to clean it he told me that the catch basin was in bad shape and that it would cost me another $875.00 to repair. I asked him to just clean it and not do any repairs. When he finished cleaning it I found that he had knocked off the sewer pipe exit ring and stuffed the pieces into the sewer drain clogging it even more. When I told him that I was not happy about this and asked him to leave my property he replied that he had to do that in order to get the water to its proper level. He then stated that when I have the money he would come back and repair the catch basin. I told him I would not be needing his services.
The bad thing is that I had already paid him in cash and I needed the subcontractors to get my sewer lines back together and the giant hole in my lawn covered up. I asked his subcontractors about this job and was informed that there were no broken tiles or pipes found and that they only found heavy roots clogging the outside pipes. They informed me that if Randy would have done the rodding with the proper equipment the roots would have been cut and removed, and that I would not have needed the Cleanout Station as told by Randy of ADR, and that the cost would have just been the $200.00 for the rodding. The subcontractors T&L Sewer and Drainage (773-589-0233) were the ones that Randy hired to dig out my front lawn and install the cleanout station. They also were the ones that pulled the city permit to get this done, and I also had to pay them an extra $380.00 to repair the damage Randy did to my catch basin so I could have everything operating properly again. I paid half down for this job when it started and the remainder when they were finishing up before I realized what was going on.
While Randy was doing my job he was also doing my neighbors sewer lines. I found out that according to Randy my neighbor and I both had the same exact problems that needed immediate repairs. I also found that he purposely damaged her catch basin as well, and then wanted another $875.00 to fix it telling her the same exact thing he told me. We have submitted complaints against ADR Sewers to BBB, and to the Illnois Attorney General' s Consumer Fraud Division and the case is under investigation.

The rebutal submitted by the owner of ADR (Randy) is total nonsense. My complaint with ADR was filed with the City of Chicago, The BBB, and the Office of the Attorney General when the issue first occurred in June of 2014. ADR would not respond to anyone until now (September 7, 2016 - 2 years later) when he thinks the coast is clear and everyone will forget. And so far it is working for him. The BBB has now stated that he responded and thus the case is now closed. He had an F rating for the past 2 years because he would not respond, and now because he resonded he goes back up to an A rating. This issue was never resolved. The BBB report that was just closed today concerning this complaint is very misleading, and I hope people considering using ADR will first do their research and find this and other complaints against this company. During the investigation of this comapny we learned that they did not possess a valid Chicago License. The City of Chicago has numerous complaints on this company. Always ask for a license and insurance when you are hiring any contarctors. Do not learn the hard way as I did. Randy of ADR is a thief and a liar. Do not trust him.

on june 4th 2014 mr tom had me come out to inspect his drains/catch basin,when I Arrived mr tom and i had got up into his crawl space to look into his catch basin. at which time I told him I would be right back i had forgot the tool (screwdriver ) to open the catch basin lid. and mr tom responds he had something there already to open the lid.
so i crawled back up into the crawl space at which time the lid was opened and was clear to see the catch basin trap was submerged under sludge and grease at this time there was absolutly no insulation in the bottom of the catch basin that later mr tom claimed i tore off the wall to stuff into sewer. if there were any present at the time we both looked in one of us would have noticed.so after telling mr tom he needed to rod the main line from the toilet stack in the basement i climbed down and mr tom was there still, coming out after me. at this time mr tom asked me to return the following morning on the 5th to try to open his main line. the following day came back like he had asked and at this time i showed mr tom. ( have pictures to back this up ) that i had just put on brand new 100 feet of 3/4inch wth inner core with a brand new 3 inch cutter blade. now in the pictures i took in toms basement you can clearly see the green paint still on the brand new cable and clesrly see its a brand new 3 inch cutter blade.
so his claim that i did not use propper equipment is beyond false again i have the pictures to prove this. so now attempting to run the cutter through the line it came to a point where it would not go no further with mr tom and his wife standign there the whole time watching me rod the line. they seen the cable get stuck in the line to where the machine was back spinning and jumping accross the floor from the pressure of cable being torked and stuck in the line. so after a bit of torking the electric eel modle d drain cleaning machine which is designed to run through 2inch to 10 inch lines. to the point whewre it broke the brand new cutter off in the line so at this time i took a pic of the brand new broken 3 inch cutter blade and switched over to a arrorw head and proceded to run that through the line coming into the same issues of getting stuch but able to get arrow had back.
so at this time i explained to mr tom how the roots break open the sections of tile to getinto the line to access the water they are looking for. now it is common sense that roots do not grow up from the main city sewer into the home owners drain to with that being said once again of you have roots in your line they have broekn open a seal around a section of tile to access it this is how roots access drains.
so after now a 3 inch cutter and a spear head gettin stuch i suggested to mr tom to have the blockage located and have a rod out station installed in the front yard to be able to access the rooots at full tork from the front yard with the drain cleaning machine. at this time i told him i would have terry from t and l comer over and explain everthing to him from there abiut what needs to be done. at not other time after rodding mr toms line did i access or even go near his catch basin till days later when i got the call from t n l that mr tom was claming that i had tore off hand fulls of insulation and stuffed into his sewer and sewer lines.
let me make it clear once again at no time after i left from under his crawl space when him and i were up there together did i even go near it again till after he made his false claim that i tore off insulation n jammed in sewer lines,.mr tom and t n l were the ones who discussed his contract and agreed to the work being done. permits were done. inspection was done and passed every thing was done correct. as far as his catch basin and his trap he claims i broke off on purpose.
this is what really happend. after i had got into cleaning out the insulation out of the basin. i told tom the water is not going down because of all the sludge in the bottom of the trap and if i keep trying to pump underneath the discharge pipe its going to break off even more at whcih time he replied do what ever you got to do to get it working right so i kept trying to remove the sludge from the bottom of the pipe n it broke off and i showed him right away at which time he got angry at me like it wass my fault his old pipe fell apart . so to make him happy i said we could have a brand new one installed before the job was complete in the front at no charge if he really thought it was broke on purpose still trying to assure him he knew it was damnged already showing it to him the very first day we opend the lid.
at this time he went onto cussing at me and yelling at me to leave. even still im telling and pleading with him to understand i didnt and wouldnt do anything to make his issues worse. to no avail. so later on i met with mr tom and his neighbor at which tiome they said they were very pleassed with what t&l had done for them and as for me i was the bad guy for the things tom accused me of at this point the 3 of them were all telling me what a rip off i am and how i diddnt use proper equipment and so on. at which tome i was asked to leave and i did so. to find out later they have made false claims against me on reports.
there is no talking to tom. he lied and lied again to make me look like an evil person when in reality i broke off a brand new 3 inch cutter and kinkced a brand new 3/4 inch drain cable trying to open his main all right in front of him watching me the whole time and me explaing step by step whats being done.
i am truly sorry this has happend never in my life would i do the things he has accused me of and he has absoulty no proof that i did anything he said i did with the insulation and stuffing it into his catch basin. mr tom if you are reading this, You have seen me work my but off to open you lines and was always respectful to you even when you were accusing me. again im sorry it had went like this never did i do or try to mis lead you or anyone in anyway.
