My son has been contract by AFNI Subrogation Department who was hired by USAA insurance company to collect on a car accident they say my son was at fault for. The police report clearly says it was a he said/she said situation which to me means you take care of your damages and I take care of mine. My son's only vehicle was completely totaled in the accident. He now has to ride a motorcycle to get back and forth to work until he can save for a safer mode of transportation.
Because of their threatening messages, my son was actually afraid to call them back. I decided I would call to see what this was all about. They said he owed $15,883.40 in damages. I asked for a copy of the damages that were being claimed and also informed them that according to the police report, it was a he said/she said situation and that my son was not given any citations to be proven at fault. She dold me he would have to pay the damages and asked if he was attending a college or university. I said that he was and that he was also emplyed by Lowe's and was barely able to survive making only minimum wage. She recommended to me that he take out a student loan to pay the damages. I quickly said to her, "that would be a of miss use of funds and what I call FRAUD." She said, "oh no, we tell kids and parents to do that all the time!!!"" I could not believe my ears. This woman was recommending that my son commit fraud and take out a student loan to pay this collection agency! How low can a collection company go? Will they recommend he cheat on his taxes next?
To take this one step further, isn't USAA incurance a company that represents only government employees and military families. I hope they know what this collection agency is recommending that people miss use their govenment funded education loans and soon cheat on their takes to get USAA insurance company money from fraudlent claims. I will be writing a letter to USAA and the better business bureau.
