I agree with the person who posted about this company and how they make the policy holder(me), jump thru hoops with phone calls, faxes, photo copies of buy out checks, etc. The only GAP I have is the one between my butt cheeks. I bought a car in November, 2011. The dealer offered GAP when I signed my finance paperwork. I thought it was a smart thing for me to do. I dont think any of my previous car purchases offered it to me. I would have done it. The GAP policy is thru AHiS, aka First Colonial Insurance Company aka Allstate. The "Good Hands" people. The same company with the commercials showing "Emily, who is just starting out and on a budget. A ramien noodle every night budget." I hope Emily never experiences a Total Loss on her car with AHiS(Allstate). I bought the car new and 4 mos later it was totaled in a hail storm. Progressive, my primary auto insurance carrier, deemed the car a Total Loss and sent the buy out check to Allstate immediately. That was on 4/3/2012 and it is now 5/26/2012. I have spent the last month calling AHiS(Allstate). I get a different answer every time I call. They're always waiting on a check photo copy, or a statement letter from Progressive, or a form from the Lender, etc., and I would call the Lender and try to get it. Only to find the next day, when I called AHiS to follow up, it turns out that they DID have it after all, but now they needed something else. Believe it or not, at one point, they needed the Lender to send them a ledgible copy of the GAP policy. WTF? They needed a copy of their own GAP insurance policy that they issued me. So I scanned my copy, and sent them their own GAP policy. I'm not kidding. I've kept every single thing from the Lender and AHiS, including the date, time and persons I spoke with. I spent 4 hours this week, going thur all of this documentation that I have. Based on the dates on the cover letters, postmarked envelopes, check copies from Progressive and the notes I've taken, I can show that AHiS had everything they needed on 4/28/2012. I was NOT going to pay a May payment for a car that I did not own, nor had title to. The balance of the car loan is 17K. Progressive paid the total loss value to the Lender. The GAP difference is 4K. They're only going to pay about 1/2 of that and now the Lender has sent me a letter stating that the remainder of my loan is $2,400. And that I have to settle this within 30 days or they turn me over to collections. Needless to say, I'm going to settle this GAP problem via the BBB, Allstate, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation, the Nissan Dealer, AHiS and the Consumer Credit Commissioner of Texas. www.occc.state.tx.us I've saved the best for last. The car was a Nissan. Nissan has it's own Lender, so it was financed thru Nissan. The GAP insurance was offered to me at the Nissan dealership when I signed financing. So AHiS is in bed with Nissan. I experienced this problem with NO external parties involved that might have caused a delay in all of this. Stay away from Nissan and AHiS(Allstate) GAP at all costs.
