In Feb 2006 my 86 year old aunt purchased a new Toyota Camry from this dealership.A high ranking county official and friend of the family called the owner and ask him to lookout for her best interest given her age and diminished capacities. The owner referred her to the general sales manager and he sold her the car.I have no idea if it was a good deal or not and that is not the issue .He also sold her a $865 extended warranty that took the standard warranty of 36 months/36000 miles to 72 months and 60000 miles .He knew she drove very few miles/year because she traded in a 2002 model with extremely low mileage .Unless she lived to be 92 and increased her driving habits many times over every year , she would never have need for any of this warranty. She recently became unable to drive at all and I was given the task of selling her car.I was amazed to find she had driven this new car less than 4000 miles IN THREE YEARS. I went through her paperwork and found the extended warranty and immediately went to the dealership to question them about the document.I told the general sales manager (the same one that sold her the car) that I had a problem with him selling her this obviously useless and probably high profit warranty. His answer was he "was just looking out for the customer".He did agree to cancel the warranty and since I had read the cancellation part of the policy, which was vague at best, I told him I felt a full refund was in order. He said he would check with the owner and get back to me , which he never did.I felt a little more comfortable after talking to a lady in the business office who actually cancelled the policy. She said she felt that at worse, MOST would be refunded since none of it was used.

I sold the car yesterday and called Toyota to get the payoff and saw the refund hadn't hit so I called the company that issued the policy if cancellation had been done and they said yes , several days ago and the dealership should have it.I called the dealership and was told the "check was in the mail".I asked how much the refund was and was told it was barely half the original amount. At that point I asked to speak to the gen sales mgr again and asked why only half and he said the issuing company made that determination.I ask if that were correct , why did he tell me he needed to speak to the owner if they weren't involved in the decision. At that point the conversation went downhill and I told him the deal stunk and he said thats the way it is and hung up.I have no monetary interest in this complaint, only the desire to see a company do the right thing by an 86 year old woman that has been taken advantage of after all precautions were taken to see if that didn't happen.I promised the gen sales mgr he would get far more than the $400 worth of grief over this deal and this is the start.

Find Myself In an Odd Situation

#3UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, March 02, 2010

I am a former employee of Alexander Toyota in Franklin and can 100% say that that brief nightmare ruined a large portion of my adult life and has made the rest tenable at best. I sympathize with your plight.  Having said that....Why did you/your family trust a car dealership, especially one that has a very well know and equally horrible reputation, to take good care of your elderly loved one?  Why didn't anyone accompany her?  As a former Finance Manager for this and other dealerships...I can tell you that the service contract wholesales for at least 300-400 dollars unless there are new programs and depending on the level of coverage...powertrain, bumper-to-bumper, etc.  The people working for this company are doing their jobs as told, most likely, just to stay employeed right now.  The problem is the ownership. A family with too much money and, importantly, power and no morals, humanity, compassion, or souls.  The atmospher within this organization between owners and employees can be likened to that of  England's Henry the Eighth and his unfortunate wives.  The dealer finds something displeasing...usually of there own making or just sociopathic whim, and blames it on someone else.  Again, I feel for you and understand your anger, but you are dealing with a criminal business family that has no concept of ACCOUNTABILITY.  Help yourself and your aunt by using this very costly and angering experiece to tell others to be careful where they purchase and above all else, do not rely on someone to call and ensure that a dealer will take care of someone.  They will, but not the way you intended.  Always have someone acompany those that might require assistance.  Always take someone with you anyway.  Its a long process and you'll have someone to talk to.

DEALERSHIPS FOR MANY YEARS!! Simply contact the Bank, Credit Union, or Finance Company, that is holding the loan on your Toyota vehicle, or ANY vehicle that was purchased or leased at a Toyota Dealer in the last 5 years, and you will be SHOCKED at what you might find! The copies of the LOAN DOCUMENTS that you received from the Dealer could be completely DIFFERENT from the ones that the Bank received from the Dealership!!! Simply call the Bank TODAY AND DEMAND ALL COPIES that the Dealership sent to them regarding your vehicle purchase or lease!!!! Toyota Dealers, AND Toyota Corporation, are CONSPIRING in an effort to FINANCIALLY INJURE THE INNOCENT!!!!! It's been going on for MANY YEARS at Toyota Dealerships all over the USA!!!! ONE SIMPLE PHONE call to the Bank that has your LOAN could AWAKEN you as to what REALLY HAPPENED when you got your Toyota, or Used Car, at the Toyota Dealership the day your transaction took place!! POWER TO THE PEOPLE P.S. Imagine if you have an EXTENDED WARRANTY that was put into your loan that you DON'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT!!!!!!!! It could have been an EXTRA $2,000 or $2,500 or MORE, that you never knew about and you are PAYING FOR IT NOW!!!!!! Just think, your loan, & payment, could have been a LOT LOWER, but you NEVER KNEW about it and there's an EXTENDED WARRANTY in your LOAN that you don't know about which is NO GOOD, right? What good is a WARRANTY that you don't even know about???????? MAKE THE CALL TO THE BANK NOW!! Thank you.

Who is looking out for her "best interest"

Not even sure if a person with "dimished capacities" should be driving anyways. Perhaps if her friends were really looking out for her best interest they would have stopped her driving at all. I am not saying this to be rude, just from the perspective where sometimes you have to make this tough decision to take away their license. Even if her diminished capacities didn't effect her driving, why would her friends(or even you) let her trade in a 2002 model with very low miles. Most likey the car was paid for, and for all intensive purposes the car would have lasted her past the time where she would no longer be driving anyways. I am not saying that the dealer was right in selling her the extended warranty, just perhaps the dealer was not the only one who was not looking out for her best interest.
