The Omega sprinkler heads my condo association had installed in the late 80s at construction were recalled. We were mandated to install new sprinkler heads at a high cost to each homeowner. On April 21, 2001, I had the new sprinkler heads installed by Alliance Fire Protection of Loganville, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. I have seven heads altogether in my condo unit. The company left two of them dripping for over six months. They would not answer my calls, send anyone out, or help me in any way. They had their money already and did not care. Eventually after six months they stopped dripping on their own.

Now, the fire marshall has come into our complex after a resident's complaint to test the sprinkler system, get us to clean the fireplace flues and dryer vents, and determine that everyone has the correct sprinkler heads. We had four pages of violations because of our negligent management company, PDQ. I have found out that Alliance installed totally unacceptable sprinkler heads that were only approved for commercial buildings and not residential use. Now I am being charged another $440 by a new company to change them out. As far as I know, I am the only person out of 171 units with this particular problem.

Alliance told me they bought the heads from Central/TYCO in Lansdale, PA, and it is clearly their fault for sending the wrong heads.

So today I did a conference call and Central/TYCO says these heads are not theirs, and that Alliance did not even purchase them from Central/TYCO. (I took photos and emailed them over.) I have conctacted their man out who confirmed that they are indeed incorrect heads for residential use and should never have been installled. He told me Alliance would pay for the error and replace the heads. (yeah right!)

Now the story has changed and Alliance Fire Protection has refused to return my calls, replace the sprinkler heads, or have anything to do with the situation. In addition to spending another $440, I have been in danger for seven years (along with all 12 units in my building) because these heads would have never activated in the event of a fire.

After discussing this with the fire marshall who legally cannot do anything except force me to buy new sprinkler heads, the purported sprinkler head manufacturer which turned out not to be the manufacturer, and Alliance Fire Protection, I feel this is a horrible ripoff. I don't want anyone to have to go through this.

Alliance is a company with whom you DO NOT want to do business. We have so many apartments and condos in the Metro Atlanta area, and I want to be certain that people know that Alliance Fire Protection is fraudulent, dishonest, cheaters, and will risk your life!!

According to other sprinkler companies, Alliance should be responsible if they install faulty equipment for the life of the equipment, but they are so disreputable and disingenuous that they are denying all responsibility.

I got an email today from an address which says

"nowarrantywehavenocontract" at blah-blah.com. I am not asking for a warranty because they didn't install viable sprinkler heads. They illegally installed faulty sprinkler heads which were the wrong ones, unapproved, and would not have activated.

In November 2008, we were contacted with an allegation that we installed commercial sprinkler heads in the residence in 2001. We made a good faith effort to locate files from seven years ago but were unsuccessful. We respectfully requested proof that we installed those heads. No documentation was ever provided. A claim was filed with the Better Business Bureau. Case # 27074071 was closed in December 2008. The BBB determined that Alliance Fire Protection made a good faith effort to resolve the issue.
