On March 27 we received a bill for $489.00 from Alyon Technologies for service on March 23 and due on April 6. Now that was my first clue. What kind of company requires payment with less than a week to respond? After further reading of the bill I realized it was for accessing an adult site.
Now I myself do not access these kinds of sites and since my husband is computer illiterate and has never gotten online or even touched the keyboard that left my 14 yr old daughter who has her own computer and own phone line in her room.
I confronted her about the bill and she was speechless and very embarrased to be accused of doing something like that. She had no explanation for what happened and did not and would not admit that she had accessed this site. I have always been able to trust my daughter on the computer, I keep a very close eye on her computer and check it every day or so to see what she is accessing and I have never found anything to make me not trust her. I have always felt very lucky to have a child like her that I could trust. Needless to say I actually believed that she had done something like this and immediately I shut her computer down and grounded her from it and her phone. She still would not admit to any wrongdoing and was very hurt and then she would not speak to me.
I then went on the Alyon website and when I found out what it was about, I blocked her phone number and then got the removal instructions and deleted the dialer and checked the registry for anything they had hidden there. This took me over 2 hours to complete and then I shut her computer down and it has not been on since March 27.
After further discussion with my daughter she can remember a pop up on her screen that evening that she tried to X out of and there was another one under it and then another one and another one. She said after trying and trying to X out she finally gave up and went on with her emails and surfing. She still continued to deny accessing the site and I was at my wits end wanting to believe her but yet it seemed there was proof to the opposite.
My husband and I decided to dispute this bill since she is a minor and said that she had not accessed this site. I was getting ready today to send a dispute letter and a notarized copy of age verification to Alyon when I came across your website and began to read about all the other people who have complaints against this company. This is the first I have heard of this company and their deceptive practices and I wonder why? If there are so many complaints why is nothing being done?
My knowledge of the law is that it is illegal to allow minors to access porn sites. My daughters phone is listed as a teen line and the bill that we recieved shows that the service is to a teen line. That to me is proof that they billed adult sites to a minor. An illegal activity that I would think any law enforcement agency would be more than happy to prosecute. I am going to follow up on this today and I will post my results at a later date.
At the top of this form is a box to check if I would be willing to be contacted by the media or a consumer advocate and I have checked it and I am more than willing to be contacted. I cannot put my name or email to this and I can only hope that I can be contacted thru the Rip-off Report website. As for why I don't get a lawyer, it costs money just to talk to a lawyer and being just an average American citizen who is trying to survive in these hard times I do not feel I should have to put out my own hard earned money to protect me or my family from law breaking companies who are allowed to prey on law abiding people. I believe I pay my taxes to goverment and state agencies who are in service to us, the American citizen, to protect us. And that is where I will be concentrating my efforts to get any help with this matter.
Thanks to Rip-off Report for allowing me this forum to express my views.
