Yep it is that simple because there is NOTHING you can do to force a company to continue to extend you credit. They are granting you the privilege of using the card, and they can take it away. The simple fact is that they are allowed to change their guidelines and you no longer qualify.
Yes you are "hurt" and "upset" that they cancelled the card and are probably taking it very personally. But it all comes back to they no longer want to extend credit to you, it has nothing to do with you personally. Even if you knew the exact reason and the reason was 100% false, you can ask them to review it but you still can't force them to re-open your account.
As to the effect on your credit report, generally closing an account won't take you from good to bad credit. However, there are several factors that may determine the exact effect. These include items such as how old is this card, how many other cards you have, what is your credit usage of the remaining cards.
