Complaint Review: American Moving Services And South Moving Storage - Hollywood Florida

American Moving Services (AMS) is the WORST company in the world. They did EVERYTHING wrong when I 'hire' them (even if they later hired another company--"South Moving Storage" to do this) to transfer our belongings from IL to VA.

CUSTOMER SERVICE (THE WORSE, EVER):

AMS customer service is horrid. AMS' employees: did not communicate or coordinate with each other, they provided me with contradictory information (one employee would say one thing and the other would say another), did not keep me informed, they were rude towards my wife and I, and did not return my calls. I had to spend a considerable amount of time calling AMS employees who, surely, did not communicate with each other.

They would not help us with anything (from creating an invoice that they refused to produce after four days of calling them about three times per day to more serious stuff including under-estimating the price).

For EVERYTHING, we had to call them about a thousand times, they did not respond to our calls and e-mails, and even WORSE they would almost scream at us (specially Joe Magniafico, he is the worst).

I do not have enough space to explain how bad this company is, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE trust me and do not hire these fools. They will over-charge you, trick you using legal technicalities, etc. Throughout the whole process, I was misinformed by AMS employees.

But here I provide some examples:

1) pick-up date: we (not them!!) had to call the driver to see why he did not pick up our things. He said that the truck had mechanical problems. Two days later the company was (still) not aware of the problem. Then they hired another company (South Moving Storage, do not trust them).

The result: two companies that did not talk to each other (AT ALL!!). There were 4 persons involved--all of them gave me contradictory information and that meant calling 4 persons every time. The worst, even if AMS hired SMS, they did not take responsibility for SMS' actions.

2) Under-estimating and over-charging: AMS' employees clearly underestimated the original amount and later did not want to take any responsibility for their original actions and lack of communication. Initially the company estimated a weight of 2,000. Well, it turns out that it was much more than that. We had to pay $800 extra for the extra weight. Yet, later on I realized that they under-estimated the weight so I would hire them (as they told me later, well normally such and such weight 3,000 not 2,000--then why did you tell me that in the first place?). Do NOT trust anything they say as frequently, they 'edited' out some essential pieces of information.

3) ALL PROMISES WERE BROKEN: The day of the delivery--1) the 'pick-up' inventory list--MISSING (thus, no way to check if there were missing items) (note: for days I was told that the drivers would have this list, then as I called Mr. Mangiafico he said "well, they should have it, if not just create one now. WOW!!). 2) re-weighting the truck: We could not re-weight the truck to check if the amount was accurate because they would not allow us to go with them in the truck (we do not have a car).

In sum, I am extremely unhappy with AMS. AMS tricked me as the company failed to provide essential pieces of information which affected the total final cost. Since AMS already had my belongings, I had no other option but to pay this over-priced amount. At the beginning their quote was lower than other's, yet I had to pay much more than what other companies were offering.
