Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I enrolled at Anthem College and began class on June 27, 2011. My class (they do only one class at a time) was called PD 101 Career Success. Shortly after starting this class, I began to sense something was not right. I was driving 94 miles round trip 4 days a week to get to this class. When I got there, the teacher would read from a chapter (but skip most of it) and then tell us to do the homework in the book. If we were done (and most of the time, this was the case) we had to sit there and do nothing as we were not allowed to leave due to their "attendance policy". The teacher would give us homework, which was whatever we did not finish in class. When we would get to class the next day, he would re-read the chapters he had told us to read for homework (once again, he would skip most of it) and then we be done. One day he even told us that if we were done with the homework, we could not leave but we could sit there and watch movies, play trivial pursuit, or stare at the wall (his exact words).

I complained to student services that the teacher was not teaching anything and that the curriculum was not college appropriate (it seemed more geared towards 9th graders). Student Services said that they have never gotten so many complaints about this teacher before. But instead of doing anything, they had other teachers come talk to those of us who complained about the class. The other teachers played down the whole situation and gave the vibe of just shut up and do the work, this class will be over soon.

This school is ripping students off by saying that we are going to get a great education. We pay a hefty tuition with either school loans or grants or our own hard earned money. I feel like this school stole from me. I am a single mom who is having a very hard time making ends meet. I work part-time, have my daughter full time and was planning on going to school full time. For this one class, they took $1,850 from my Pell Grant and gave me no education in return. No matter whom I complained to at the school, no one did anything to help. Now the campus president finally responded (2 weeks after I wrote her several times) and said they are not going to refund my money. Would you go to a school with a teacher like this:
*did not teach, only read
*did not know the difference between within 24 hours and wait at least 24 hours
*told us that he had no teaching credentials
*gave us inaccurate information (told us information that expired 4 years ago)
*assumed a girl in class spoke English as a second language because of her name
*assumed no one in the class had any disabilities
*said that we could either watch movies, play trivial pursuit, or stare at the wall
*got mad when a student was writing in their book (that's what we were supposed to be doing...)
*gave students different grades for the same answer
*counted students as late even if he was later than them
*told a student he was not going to clarify what something in the book meant (she asked him because she didnt understand and he said are you going to run to your supervisor every time you have a question? meaning he was not going to clarify)
*student services said we have never gotten this many complaints about him before

Sound like a great school to you? Not me. They refuse to give me my money back. Well I have contacted the news, the BBB, and the MN Attorney General. We'll see if they change their mind about refunding me when the whole world knows how bad they are. Why would you employ a "teacher" like that? And why would you stick up for that kind of "teaching"? And why would you refuse to help? UNLESS YOU ARE A BAD SCHOOL...

To whoever wrote this complaint:

I work at KSTP TV, 5 Eyewitness News. If what you wrote is true, that this teacher had no accreditation's, than this may be newsworthy since the school allows students to use federal funds to help pay tuition. I'd love to talk to you more, shoot me an email at [email protected]

You have some very valid complaints.  Another organization you'll want to send your complaint to is the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges & Schools (ACICS) at www.acics.org. They are the accrediting body that oversees this particular campus of Anthem.  Since a school really can't operate (or collect federal funds) without accreditation, it's a good place to lodge a complaint.

Good luck!
