AOL is the ripoff company that doesn't give a dam. Double billing, connection drops, & bad customer service. Ogden, Utah
As a raw newbie, about a year ago, I put the aol disc in a used computor and tried to access the net. Connection could not be made after repeated attempts. Could not get online to use the service. Frustrated, I gave up. Had registered my credit card, etc., and all other info needed to get service.
About a month later another computor was obtained and the same disc used to set up for access, as well as the same credit card. This time it worked. What I didn't realize untill much later, was that they were double billing me. Even though I was unable to get online the first time they were still billing me for that one too. Was finally able to get through to aol billing and after explaining the situation, was told the most they could do was credit me for 3 months or give me the next 3 months unbilled.
I must say the guy I talked to was courteous and apologetic. This didn't cover all my loses to them. This told me that beyond getting your billing info, they have no idea if your using the service or they don't really care. In the future I watched my cc bills much closer. I am calling them today to cancel my account as I found an ISP that just started up as a network marketing company, offers unlimited service for less money and will down the road, start sending me monthly checks. I just think AOL is too big and impersonal and though they talk customer service, all they're really interested in is your monthly payment. I would never reccomend aol to anyone, end of
