A.R.C. (Accounts Recovery Corp.) has been calling my residence for 2 months. They usually call twice - or more - per day. Sometimes messages are left - sometimes not. These messages can be a recording or a live voice.
In addition to the constant barrage of calls coming here, they recently contacted my Mother who lives at a different address and phone number. It has been that way for years now.
They have been calling her at least once per day for a couple of weeks now. She recently answered a call from them - the female collector asked for me, and was told that I do not live there, and it was incorrect contact information.
The collector proceeded to ask for my number (which they are calling anyway), and my Mother rightly refused. My mother questioned the collector regarding the use of her telephone number - and was replied with "this is the contact information we have on file as of Sept. 2012". This is false in that (1) I have not resided with my Mother for years now and (2) They already call my residence everyday.
At this point, the collector raised her voice and said 'you better take this up with .....' (me) My Mother said I better not get any more calls here and was told 'you most certainly will'. My Mother said good day and hung up.
In the course of this conversation, Mom asked who was calling. The collector did not provide her name but said she was calling from 'Account's Recovery regarding a debt that ... owes.'
Several things wrong here:
1) I have not gotten anything in writing from them prior to the commencement of collection calls
2) They call enough to be considered harrasment.
3)It may be legal to contact my Mother - but I am under the impression that it is a violation of Privacy under PIPEDA to give any information connecting me to debt or a collection agency. Clearly, this collector provided someone other than me with sensitive and personal information.
4) THey called my mothers number today literally 2 mins after calling mine. (Confirmed and documented)
They are now legally obligated to stop calling my Mother. We will see.
There is no end to the number of calls, the harrassing messages, and the steps that some agencies will take to make commissions. I am tired of this and it is having a negative affect on my current health problems.
