I enrolled at Ashford University Online in April,2009.

After comunicating extensivly several times with the enrollment advisors and being reassured multiple times that All my tuition would be covered by my grants.

Which was re-confirmed by my advisors during the begining my first week of classes that all my paper work had been finalized and all my tuition was being paid for.

However during the middle of my 2nd week I recieved a notice that I had no student aid and nothing was being paid for and that I was going to have to take out 2 intrest loans to attempt to pay for my tuition.

I tried repeatedly to call and e-mail them to figure out what was going on and try to resolve the matter. But all I got in return was having my calls and mail ignored for the past week. 3 days into my third week of class after repetedly calling I finnaly got in touch with someone to actually talk to me.

As it turns out I had been lied to and misinformed and minipulated from the very begining about my student aid and tuition coverage.

When I tried to find out more about my fed. student aid and what else I could do to resolve the matter they kept trying to change the subject and get me to take out multiple intrest loans. When I continued further to find out more about my fed. student aid options they kept transfering me to other advisors and giving the run around.

I called around locally tried to get advice from the local board of education,my old high school and a semi-local technical college they were all very suspisious and told me not to enroll or sign any thing further and dissenroll ASAP.

It took 2 days to get into contact with them just for that.

So today May 07 2009 I dissenrolled and now am held with a $1000+ bill for nothing more than 6 total wasted weeks and a worthless over priced book.

All I can do is hope that this does not mess up my student aid for the future, or the chance of enrolling with a professional and legitamate school.

I just hope that this information can be used to help someone else to avoid from getting into this type of situation with such misinforative lying {so called} business.

Hey,

I see that you are upset at this person who got played by this "reputable institution". Financial aid is a loan that is given to students in order to pay for college up front. Grants are available up to $5800, which is half the tuition. Well Ashford, for some reason, doesn't like to give out the full amount of financial aid awarded to each student. Ashford likes to make sure that the student has some sort of balance at the end of the disbursement. It seems strange, but most students at ashford are those who are working full time, and looking to make more money with a college education. They have families and pay their bills, but make too much to be considered for the full amount. Ashford has had a lot of problems with the law and is one of the Degree Mill institutions. Don't blame people who are looking for a way to get through college without being 80-100k in debt, then what's the point? It's people like you who think people are always looking for handouts that make me sick. People work extremely hard to get where they are. Sometimes people are just looking for a break here and there, not a life where they get everything for free. If that were the case why work? It's the lazy people who don't work and receive free housing, food, clothing, etc. Get you mind right bud.

If you have financial aid, don't attend this online school. After much research, I was referred to this office. You can receive mediator help through the OSFA Ombudsman. This is an outside organization that helps resolve issues with schools that the student cannot resolve. Their number is 1-877-557-2575. This is the only organization that I have found that will contact the school on your behalf to resolve your issues. Good Luck! Angie Charlotte, North Carolina

The truth about this is that no one goes to online school for free. The reps at the university told you that you would have to take out loans to pay for your education. The grants are need based and can only cover a max of about 50% of your tuition. You need to listen. It is people like you that expect the government to pay for their entire education that make me sick. An education is made avaliable to you through financial aid this is a combination of grants and loans, most people that work do not qualify for the grants. This is a reputable institution that really cares about their students and wants the best for them, it is idiots like you that do not listen that give a quality online education a bad reputation. Get a life idiot
