Mr. Altaani had done work for us in the past (install flooring) without incident. When we bought a new home we contacted him. He quoted us a price to remodel the house. We took other bids, but went with him because he worked for us before and had done a good job.
We entered into an agreement and he started the work. We paid him beyond what we should have for the completion level of the work- he said he neeed it to continue the job.
He stopped answering calls and texts, stopped paying his subcontractors.
Our house was uninhabitable so we were forced to pay his subcontractors to keep the work going. We finally got him back on the job, only to have him pack up his gear and abandon the job- he was in over his head.
We got him to come back and he agreed to pay us what we spent for materials and his subcontractors. Inspite of the fact that we had already paid him over $46,000, we had to buy the flooring for him to lay, cabinets for him to install, etc.
We continually had to call and text to keep him on track. As far as paying us what he owes us, he stalled us for months with a variety of excuses. He has stopped answering calls and texts again and did not show up for a meeting with us.
I have filed a complaint with the State Attorney Generals office, complained to the BBB and posted on Angie's List. I don't want him to cheat anyone else.
My husband recently retired and this was our retirement home. Now we have almost no insulation and have slept under multiple blankets because the house was so cold. Insulation was one of the things in our agreement that he did not do and I am out of money for this. I took loans from the bank and my retirement to fix this house, and am left with an unfinished job that I have to pay interest on!
