I was advised that my pet (Cat), needed to have his teeth cleaned and that he had a tooth that needed to be extracted. This is a perfectly healthy animal and not underweight at all. I took him in and was called that afternoon and told that he went through the surgery fine and would be ready to be picked up at 5pm. When I picked him up, I was so glad that he went through it okay and I never thought to ask them about any post operative conditions or expectations. When I got him home he was groggy & wandered around coming down from the anesthesia.

The following morning he still had not drank and his puplils were dialated and it was as though he could not see or hear me. I called the Banfield Hospital immediately and they told me that was a normal expectation after surgery. Well I wish someone had told me that. Several days later, he still hasn't drank or eaten, I got in touch with the doctor and she said that it will take a few days for him to bounce back but he should get enough fluids from his wet food and if he gets thirsty he will drink and if he is hungry he will eat. Well day 4 and he still is not eating and looking very skinny, I called again and was told to bring him in the following morning as it sounded like he was dehydrated. The next day I spoke to another doctor and he said that they put him on IV's all day and that he was dehydrated but the surgical area looked good and was healing fine.

Well now it is several weeks later and he still is not eating and drinking as he used to and he is becoming more skinny, on the advise of a friend, I was told to get him to another Vet immediately, that something was wrong with him.

Sure enough, I took him to another vet and what they found was apauling, the tooth that they had supposidly been extracted was broken off and the gum had grown over it and the other part of the tooth, the root was still there sticking out of the gum and the gum area was swollen and infected.

I had to take him to this other vet and spend more money to have this tooth removed and the sockets cleaned and taken care of so that he will feel better and eat. I also called the people at Banfield Pet Hospital to talk with them about this and no one has bothered to call me or address the issue.

I simply wanted them to know what they had done to my pet and I was going to ask them to compensate me the fees for this trip to the Vet and to discontinue their services. Now it has got to the point they can't even return a call and yes, now I am angry. This corporation is cold hearted and nothing like they claim to be. They could care less about people's animals. How could their doctors allow something like this to happen? This is not just a mistake, this is abuse and malpractice. PLEASE PLEASE Stay way from this place.

4/28/06: I just came home with my cat and come to find out Banfield Hospital NEVER removed the entire tooth at all. Part of it was grown over under his gums, no wonder he hasn't felt like eating and loosing all this weight. I hope they know that they do not care about people's pets like they say they do. I'm just so glad I caught it in time and got away from them.
