Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

To begin with I received a cashiers check which was to be used for work I was going to do. To be on the safe side I took the check to my Fort Worth, TX BofA branch to have them to VERIFY the check as GOOD or BAD. When I presented the check to the Branch Manager I was told in NO uncertain terms "We do not verify checks We do not have the ability to do so"  If you want the check verified then "DO IT YOURSELF ".  I had NEVER heard such a thing A Bank that could not verify a check Bank to Bank . WHAT AN ABSURD NOTION.

Anyway I contacted the issuing bank Navy Federal Credit Union( NFCU )and requested they verify the cashiers check but they would only verify the account was a good account but would not verify the check was good  " Because they did not want to compromise their customers confidentiality ". I then ask their reprensentive if they felt the check would clear and they said " They believed it SHOULD ". Feeling that there shouldn't be any problems with depositing the check I took the check to BofA branch and deposited the check in my account. After which I was told there was a hold placed on the deposit and it would take five days before the check would be credited to my account.

The very next morning BofA contacted NFCU to verify the check and was told the check was FRAUD and they immediately froze my account ( but they had originally told me  that they did not have the ability to verify checks ). So if that were the case then how could they have verified this check? Anyway to find out why my account was frozen I was told I had to contact the corporate Fraud department which I did and was told what had happened and why my account was frozen. They said to resolve this matter I needed to get a letter from NFCU stating that I had contacted them for verification of the check.

I did so and after MUCH EFFORT on my part I got NFCU to agree to issue the letter of verification but was told the letter would take 7 to 10 business days plus mail time. After receiving the letter I took the letter to my BofA branch so they could transmit the letter to the Fraud department but they refused. So I again contacted the BofA Fraud department and was told they would not need the NFCU letter it would not make any difference as faras they were concerned.  SO after ALL the days of EFFORT it took me to get the NFCU letter at BofA’s request NOW they did not want the letter. They were going through with closing my account and reporting me to CHEX Systems.

BofA is not honoring their commitment and is NOW accusing me of being part of the FRAUD and that I was trying to defraud the bank by depositing the cashiers check. By them reporting me to CHEX systems I can not open another bank checking account for five years unless BofA removes their entry about me. The FRAUD department now wants me to file a police report against the group that forged the cashiers check. Then send them a copy of the police report and another letter ask they retract their statements and open a  new checking account and they will CONSIDER doing so. What's to say they won't do like they did with NFCU letter and refuse these documents after I have spent ALOT of time and money getting them.

PLEASE help me RESOLVE this MISJUSTICE.

Thank You

How could there be a problem since you never spent any of the funds you deposited?

I read your complaint very carefully.  It states, in short, that you made a deposit and the cashiers check (or certified check) bounced.  This would be a very small nsf type fee charged to your account and presumably you would have the $35 to pay that fee sitting in your account.

Was there some other deficit that put your account in the negative? Or have you done this type of thing before (deposit checks that don't clear)?

It seems to be very strange that BOA would close your account if you had a positive balance and only had this fraud check one time during your banking relationship.
