I must say in defense of Mr Denny its true. It can be very muddy and we all should be willing to take our boots off at the door. But from then on Bearpaw becomes a little questionable.
My wife and I contacted Dale before the 2003 deer season in our state. We had doe permits for GMU 49 degrees north and called to inquire if he had private land in that unit that we could hunt on. Dale said he did and off we went.
When we received our hunt contract it said the hunt was guided 2 on 1. in all fairness I will tell you that a guided hunt was not what we were looking for nor at any time was it implied other than said contract. I did not question the cotract thinking this is an easy deal and perhaps he had a family member that he was going to send along to point out the private land and good ambush areas.
We arrive in the evening TOOK OFF OUR SHOES and immediately started getting the cold sholder from Dales wife. A guide at the table finally asked who we were and where we would be hunting. 49 degrees north I said. The guide stood up looked at Dales wife and said "we dont have any place in 49 degrees north for them to hunt". As for a guide! Dales son went out in the morning with us showed us the public places we could hunt and from then on we were on our own.
Now I am not going to tell you that we didnt see deer, because we did, lots of them, Turkeys to, all on the private property of Dales neighbors behind no hunting signs.
Now I have hunted deer some 36 years, and I have had fairly good luck getting a deer or elk 9 of the last 10 years. I had never hunted the 49 degrees north area( it was not the tag we had hoped to draw)and thought this was the ebest thing to do, It was not. Dale did begrudgingly offer us another hunt for 2004. We did not accept feeling that it would not be benificial to either party.
Most guided hunts are expensive, ours fortunatly was not. If you have saved up a bundle for that dream of a life time hunt and are hunting in Washington or any place, do your home work, get EVERY detail in writing check web sites like this one. And if you have to hunt around Colville, check out Sherman Creek Outfitters, Wish we would have.

FREE HUNT OR FULL REFUND!!! First I want to make it very clear that Pat is welcome to return to Bearpaw Outfitters anytime for a free hunt with a free guide to make sure he gets to shoot at deer or he is welcome to a full refund. MORE INFO Pat booked an unguided deer hunt (basically meals and lodging) for a modest $200. Our hunt area has the largest deer herds in all of Washington and getting a doe is a 1 or 2 day affair for almost anyone. Our hunters average 90% to 100% shooting opportunity on our buck or doe hunts nearly every year. The Unit where Pat drew doe tags is close to our lodge and cabins but we do not have any leases in that hunt area and I told them that on the phone. Pat got his own tags for this unit, we did not tell him to get tags for that unit. I did tell Pat that Bearpaw Outfitters could provide meals and lodging for $200 each and give them directions where to hunt on the thousands of acres of public land that is in that unit. After they arrived it appeared they might be incapable of finding the hunt areas with a map on their own so I had my son Brian take them around and show them several areas to hunt and he also pointed out several deer to them during the tour. We do not understand why they chose to drive around in private land areas when we showed them where to hunt the public land. WHICH HUNT DID THEY BOOK AND PAY FOR? They booked an unguided doe hunt on public land with meals and lodging included for $200. We offer a private land hunt in other units for $400 which is $200 more than they paid, but they only paid $200 for their meals and lodging. Their hunt did not include a guide or private land access. WHICH HUNT DID THEY RECIEVE? We provided the meals and lodging that they paid for and provided directions where they could hunt on the public land. My son even took them for a ride and showed them numerous areas to hunt and he also showed them several deer in those areas. FACTS * Bearpaw Outfitters have been in business for over 30 years. * We do not say that every hunt is successful or that every hunter is satisfied. * About 97% to 98% of our hunts are complaint free. * We deal with any issue that arises and make any legitimate complaint right. * Many hunters have hunted with us repeatedly for as many as 10 to 20 years. * Bearpaw is the only Washington Outfitter recommended by NAHC every year since 1991. * To our knowledge we are the only outfitter in Washington who is an approved BBB member. * Pat booked an unguided doe hunt and complained because they did not get a doe. * Apparently we made a mistake on the paperwork and said it was guided. * By his own admission Pat says he knew the hunt was an unguided hunt. * Because Pat seemed confused we offered him a free hunt. * Pat never accepted the hunt and instead wrote this complaint to this company that did not even check out the story before posting it on the internet. * Bearpaw Outfitters is more than willing to give Pat a free hunt or refund Pat's money if he corrects this story. * So if you are reading this story it is because Pat will neither take the free hunt nor will he accept a refund. We feel we have made every reasonable effort to satisfy this person. I ask you to be the judge, what more can Bearpaw Outfitters do to make this right.
