I responded to an advertisement offering free samples of 2 eye creams that are endorsed by Dr. Phil. They said I would receive a 14 day trial and only had to pay $4.95 shipping and handling for each product, "No Commitments."
I received the products (just products thrown in a package, that did not look like the pictures I saw, no paperwork) and after 4 days of use, the skin around my eyes became very tight and wrinkly. These products were definitely not for me, so I packaged them up and sent them back to the company with a note proclaiming how terrible these products are.
Today, I checked my account balance and saw an $89.95 charge from "tryskinreplenish.com." I had no idea what this charge could possibly be, I never ordered anything from a company by this name, so I called the phone number that was displayed next to the withdrawal on my statement. Mind you, the return addresses for the eye creams I received had the company names "Beau Derma" and "Revita Eye."
When my call was answered I got an automated message saying, "thank you for calling customer service." There was no indication of the name of the company I was calling. After being on hold for 15 minutes, and still not being addressed by a human, I hung up and redialed. This time, I got a human after being on hold for 8 minutes.
The customer service representative asked what product I was calling about and it suddenly clicked. I said, "I think I'm calling about "Beau Derma and Revita Eye." I asked why they withdrew $89.95 from my account and after asking me some verification questions, the (barely english speaking) male said my 14 day trial had expired, therefore I was charged for the products.
I explained to him that I had just put the package in the mail for return because I was not satisfied with the products. He proceeded to say, "can I have your (I can't remember what he called it) number?" He went on to say I did not call the company and tell them I was returning the products (and receive a verification code), therefore my return is not valid. I did not see any indication that I needed a verification code to return these products on their website nor was there a package insert of any sort that could indicate this information.
I pleaded with the man and explained how I am a single mother with no money to spare and this $89.95 withdrawal from my account meant no food shopping for me and my child this week. I asked to speak to his supervisor. Here's the response I got... "I am a supervisor, so there is nobody higher than me that you can speak to, we cannot refund your money since you did not return the product properly." I said, "you must have a boss and I want to speak with them." He said, "yes, I do, but they are not taking phone calls, that is my job." I demanded to speak with someone higher up than him and he denied me, once again.
This has created a huge hardship for myself and my son. This company needs to be exposed for their lack of honesty and misleading information!!!
