I never worked in BBFB (Best Buy for Business) but rather Geek Squad.. I just read through the offical return policy on http://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb/en/US/adirect/bestbuy?cmd=BBFBReturns basically three really bad things.. #1) if an item is opened at all.. it's non returnable period.. except if defective.. #2) most defective items you have to call a sales rep who will attempt to resolve the issue over the phone if not .. they will exchange it for the same or like item.. (exceptions see #3) #3 if you buy Apple IBM, HP Sony (and the catch all) "and others" see your sales rep - these items must be RMA through the MFG.. I assuming the problem in your case is that .. there is nothing actually wrong with the laptop.. except that a specific software title you own doesn't run on it etc.. and that's why lenovo isn't issuing the RA# for you.. your right.. the return policy is horrible compared to other online reseller that would charge 15% restock fee on non defective items.
