The most obvious solution would have been to refuse the damaged box. Simply ask for a different one that has no signs of damage. The second solution is to always pay with a credit card, so you can dispute the transaction if there is a problem.

Well, first of all, Sony does NOT manufacture plasma tvs. They only manufacture and sell LCD tv's and rear projection tv's. No plasmas. This makes the rest of your story suspect. You don't even know what you purchased. However, knowing Best Buy's history of no customer service and various rip offs, I tend to believe you in this matter. But, in the future, make sure you know what you have purchased.
