Actually they missed out on the sale because the operations team wasn't too bight. Was was supposed to happen, is the computer automaticly takes out the cost of the gift card from the linked item (washer dryer). The gift card can't be "free" to the system because it is programed such that cost=value so a $0 cost gift card = $0 value added to gift card. Sometimes the system doesnt automaticly do it correctly (maybe bevcause it was an open box), so they just take it out manually. Not a big deal. I promise no one was trying to rip you off, the people there just wern't too bright.
