Newly Discovered Dangers of Bitdefender
Bitdefender is known to fail frequently which requires regular uninstall and reinstall. It is also known for its renewal ripoffs. I have suffered both problems over the years and have several service tickets to show it. But now there is a new and more serious problem.
I have had Bitdefender for longer than I care to remember. Yesterday I received an online invitation to update my Bitdefender Internet Security 2011 to 2012 for free with an install tool which was not included with the invitation. I called customer service who wanted to take over my computer to "fix the problem". I told them I just wanted them to push me the download and that there was no problem to fix. They insisted there was a problem. They took over the computer, fiddled with a lot of files, some of which had no relationship to Bitdefender, and concluded that I had a lot of computer problems and many trojans. They refused to provide the free update until I allowed them to "clean up" my computer. However they could only do the cleanup if I signed up for a service to remove malware from my computer which they offered at $179 for 3 years, $149 for 2 years or $99 for one year. I refused and ended the takeover.
I downloaded Emisoft Anti-Malware, ran a scan, and confirmed that there were 4 high risk trojans infecting my computer. THE SOURCE OF ALL FOUR WAS BITDEFENDER!!!!!!! I quarantined them and the computer runs far better than before. Bitdefender will be cancelled and a refund will requested for the unused portion.
Enough said.
