About six months ago, I blew my engine in my car. Having had Brakes Plus do previous work, I decided to have them do the engine swap. They did.
I got the car back. The cig lighter, radio, alarm, and air conditioning no longer worked, and the car would idle funny (it would go from 200 to 1000 rpm's over and over) while the ac was on, producing no cold air. I called them, they told me to bring it in.
I called every day, and they still hadn't had time to get the job done. I came in to pick up the car and they told me the idle was from a hose, and they fixed it. They told me the a/c needed to be recharged and I would have to pay for that.
HERE's THE KICKER: they told me that my radio and cig lighter were blown and I needed to go somewhere else and have them fixed there. I asked if they checked the fuse. "Yes, we did. There is power going to the radio and cig lighter, and the fuse is good. They're just blown." I told them I had been listening to the radio and that something was plugged into the lighter when the engine blew, and that they definately had worked before they touched the car.
Guess what? After about a week of trying to find a new radio, a friend of mine, A GIRL, (just like me), informed me that she was going to check my fuses. I told her that that was not what it was; Brakes Plus had told me the fuse was fine and that power was going into each device. Guess what again? There was no fuse in the socket for the radio and cig lighter! They had pulled it out and forgotten to replace it, and when I presented the problem they essentially told me where to go and said they would not fix it.
There's more, oh, yes, there's more. Remember the funny idle when the a/c was on that they said they fixed, and the fact that the a/c didn't blow cold air, which they told me just needed to be recharged?
Well, about a week after the fuse incident, I was driving the car (the second time I had driven it since I got it back, two weeks after the repair was "completed"), I was driving along and a piece of metal fell out from the engine area. I pulled over, grabbed the piece, and called AAA (I didn't want to risk damaging the car any more.) AAA got there, and told me that it was part of my A/C! I told him about the funny idle, and he said that the piece was some sort of condenser or clutch, and that it absolutely caused the idle and that it also caused the fact that there was no cold air coming from the A/C.
I called Mike at Brakes Plus and told him all of this. He told me that the A/C problem was normal wear and tear, and that it wasn't his responsibility. I called Schomp Honda and Burt Honda, and spoke with techs at both. They all told me that Brakes Plus should have recognized the symptoms and fixed the problems. Because they didn't, I now have to purchase an entire new A/C assembly.
So, one more part. I called Brakes Plus corporate, who assured me I would be taken care of. Have I been? Does it seem as though I have? Of course not, otherwise I would not be writing this on RipOffReport.com right now.
P.S. There are some other things that they did wrong, but I can't spend two hours writing this report. These are the biggest things, though. Good luck getting anything done right or even a response from Brakes Plus.
