I needed a locksmith to open my storage unit so I looked one up online. Trying to save a dollar or two I chose the ad that stated it was $19. They took my information but didn't state anything about pricing. I took the ad at face value. The actual locksmith called. He asked what kind of lock. I told him. No mention of cost. "See you in about 20 min," he said. About 45 minutes later I called and he said he was held up because someone couldn't pay. He might be longer. I asked him to call me when he was close. I said, "Thats crazy! Why would they call if they didn't have money?" I should have known. We went to get drinks. It was tallying up to a full hour and a half. He calls. He's there waiting. He sees my lock and says it will be $120 for this kind of lock. My eyebrows went up into my hairline and voice up two octaves. He could tell I was wavering and about to send him packing. Then he said,"I will do you a solid." "Excuse me?" He answered,"I will do it for 50, but I have to call the company and tell them that you were a no show. And you have to pay me in cash". "Check OK?" "Sure." Of course, there's more. He tells me that the company will call to verify. That I left. So he calls, gets his tools, and then tells me the company will still try to collect $19 from me. He advised me to not be intimidated. And they called. I told them they owed me $30 because I had been waiting an hour and a half. No where on their website is cost mentioned. No where does it say you owe a cancelation fee. Anyone would assume it was $19 for the whole job as advertised. I wrote a check for $50 after my lock was opened. Looking at this site I saw another man in North Carolina who went through the same thing. The website looked just like these guys only mine was green and his was yellow. I did a call block, called them back, and pretended to be a new customer. I asked directly about the price. Then she honestly told me the service call was $19, the flat fee$44, and the rest depends on the lock. A word of advice: Ask directly how much it costs for the locksmith and don't be fooled by the ad.
