The problem here is people don't realize that when you first give them your credit card at almost any restaurant where you'd give a tip, they swipe it basically for records. When you get the recipt it only shows the cost of your meal and tax. Then when/if you put the desired tip on the recipt they go back afterwards and input your tip and the new total then send it in. Here's the thing: if you don't put any tip on the receipt because you feel like being mean (J/K) or pay the tip in cash, make 100% sure you fill out both copies of the receipt. This way the server can't rip you off by putting in a tip you didn't put or change the tip -and- you have a copy for your records in case you look at your bank account later and notice a difference. You can take it back and complain to the manager and they should have kept it on record for a while. If this doesn't work, speak to your bank and complain of a fradgulent charge to your account and the situation. More than likely they'll take care of it for you. (I've had to do this before.) Just make sure you check your bank account afterwards to make sure what your wrote on the receipt is what you paid.
