CAMCO ripoff - tried to collect on an already-paid debt Rockford Illinois
They tried to collect on a debt I had already paid for 12 years ago when I refinanced my house. My attorney at that time paid the debt. I could not provide them with proof of payment since it is over 12 years old and I no longer live in the state where I had that attorney. They said if I didn't pay they would put it on my credit report. I agreed foolishly to pay $101 if they would send me a release. I told them if I didn't receive a release that I would personally come there and who knows what. It has now been 2 months and no release yet.
These people are just the biggest SCAMCO I know. Do not pay them if they threaten you. It is strange that this debt has never appeared on my credit report before. If it does, I guess I will have to contest the credit report. At this point, I really don't know what to do.
