I received a call (apparently our number on the DO NOT CALL LIST expired, with a recoding wanting me to take a quick political survey, with a few general questions, how I felt about Republicans & the debt, Democrats and the country's debt, how President Obama's doing etc, then to hold while I'd get information about a free cruise.  I knew it was phony, a "too good to be true - so it can't be" thing, so I played along, let the girl give the spiel, until she wanted my credit card number, which I said I didn't own one, (true)

so she tried for a personal check, voided, with MY CHECKING ACCOUNT NUMBER AND ROUTING NUMBER! I told her I'd have to get a certified check from the bank and she said they couldn't accept it but suggest I buy a credit card at Walmart or someplace and put $118 on that and she'd call back "because these cruise suites are going to be going fast, they're filled up from cancellations, etc." I told her it'd be wiser to wait until I was ready to go because whomever's cabin I was getting was probably cancelling at the last minute. She didn't understand this strategy - the $118 would hold my "Port of _____" (I forgot what) as I was only half listening/half writing down notes.

The sad part was I could tell she was an uneducated phone solicitor who probably only got paid when she sold some "reservations" and I felt for her. But, hey, I'm a waiter, people should feel sorry for me and tip better!

I have been getting calls from this research group on my cell phone and home phone.  Yesterday i decided to answer vs. ignore since i am an undecided voter.  I was thinking my input would be of value for political polling.  the survey was very quick with only 4 questions and did not seem very intuitive for polling.  Once completed my call was forwarded to the person who represented herself as a reservation booking agent for Caribbean Cruises.  I was also asked for my credit card number to secure my "winning trip".  This seemed very bogus in that it was asked for even before my committing to a time for the trip.  There was no opportunity for documents to be sent to me for review or reference to a website with associated documents.  There was a tax ID number of #AQ8513 as if this gave credibitlity to this vendor and the offer.
