We have been having the same problem with the air bag light on our 2005 PT Cruiser for 7 years. We have worked with the Chrysler dealership in Tallahassee, Florida when this vehicle was still under warranty three times, in an attempt to repair the problem we are having, and most recently with the Napleton dealership in Palm Beach Gardens (twice). No one is able to fix the original problem, which we were told by a specialist that it is not with the airbag light, but with the original wiring. Now the problem is affecting other electrical and mechanical operations with the lights, windows, wipers, and the clock. We are having an extremely difficult and unsatisfactory experience with the Customer Service Representatives, who are not fulfilling our needs and concerns of safety, by providing and delivering professional, helpful, high quality services and assistance with this recurring problem.
We have provided numerous records, documents, and letters communicting the problem we are having, but they are not listening to us. Instead they are only taking the word of the dealerships, which has proven time and again not to be reliable. Last year a representative authorized repair of the air bag light by the Napleton dealership, even though the car is out of warranty, and now we are having the same problem, once again. This year our car has been sitting on the dealership lot for over 2 months, and we have been working with 2 different representatives; one in the beginning of the recurring problem on April 7, 2014, and another who took over the case on April 16, 2014. Everytime we deal with a service representative we have to start all over again, from the beginning, trying to explain the problem we have been having and all the attempts that have been made to fix it, but the original cause for the problem is not being addressed, or even considered.
We were told most recently that the air bag light has been authorized again to be fixed by Napleton, but if any other electrical or mechanical problem ensues, it is our responsibility to pay out of our own pocket. Inasmuch as the representatives are authorizing the same repair over and over again, without getting to the root cause of what is causing the problem to begin with, the problem has not been resolved and we continue to drive a car that we have been told is unsafe because the air bag will not deploy when the lair bag light is on.
Over the many years we have had this problem, it has never been made clear to us what actions have been taken to repair this vehicle once and for all. After numerous attempts have been made to repair the problem, when we collect the vehicle and start using it again, the problem is still there, and continues to recur year after year. Furthermore, we do not trust what is being told to us about the so called diagnostic procedures that are being done, and the authorizations for the repair that are being given, because of the fact that the problem persists year after year.
We have requesteed that an independent and impartial person take it apart and determine what the real problem is in the operation of the air bag that causes the air bag light to come on time and time again, or take possession of the vehicle and refund our money, so we do not have to endure this problem another year, but they have refused to help us in any way whatsoever. Meanwhile, we will not be able to sell this car because of its record, and we do not feel safe in the operation of this car, which has only been used to go back and forth to and from work for all these years. It only been driven about 39,000 miles, and we have never used it for a major trip. We are at our wits end and our patience has run out completely. We don't even feel that it would be safe to give it away to the Salvation Army, or any other organization that could put such a donation to good use.
What are we to do? What other resources do we have? Please help!
