Circuit City Bait & Switch Deceptive Ads False Advertising consumer fraud ripoff Richmond Virginia
I ordered what is listed on Circuit City's website as a APC Battery Backup unit. What I received is a "Conext Battery Backup" unit. APC is a name brand that I have used for years and I considered as the best on the market. Conext is a cheap unit that according to APC Tech Supportis not affiliated with them at all.
I consider this a perfect example of a "bait and switch" tactic. I contacted Circuit City's customer service via telephone and was informed they would have to research why this problem had occurred, and they would contact me back within "48 business hours". I visited my local Circuit City located in Downers Grove Illinois and spoke with Jason, the "Assistant Store Director". Jason researched the problem and stated "I'll have to contact corporate" to see if we can give you a replacement APC branded unit that meets the same specifications.
Well after 2 days of "research", it turns out Circuit City and APC both lied. The unit is manufactured by APC, but not sold or supported. Since it is made by APC, Circuity stated "we can sell it as an APC unit if we desire".
This is similar to the Chevymobile debacle of the mid 80's. The courts eventually decided that "Brand name recognition" was the deciding factor when people purchased automobiles.
Result, I'm out the $$ and stuck with a piece of crap that doesn't work.
