in June 2015 i purchase my first car, a Nissan Altima. i went with one friend to the dealership(columbus Auto Warehouse) to find a quality vehicle, for this i was willing to pay monthly. my job is in Hilliard, thats about an hour and a half away on the bus, i needed transportation. i picked out a car and left with it the same day, full coverage insurance included(safe auto). i was excited about raising my credit score and also having purchased my first car all on my own. i left with a monthly payment starting in October of 271$
Well my car started to stall out on me within 2 months of driving it. I contacted the dealership repeatedly about the issue for 2 more months until i was tired of being ignored(at this point I'm starting to see the CAW way of business). thats when i contacted the owner of columbus auto warehouse. the first time i brought my car in he had his mechanic replace a shift solenoid. this did not fix the issue and the second i drove it off the lot it started to stall out on me again. at this point i had started my payments and still had my full coverage insurance going. i contacted my personal banker to let him know what was going on and to ask a few questions in regards to cancelling the loan on columbus auto warehouse, which he informed me it was too late.
So 5 months with this car and I've only had it in my possession for about 2.5 months. the other 2.5 was spent waiting and asking for rides from friends spending money on uber and taking the bus sometimes. but i continued to pay my car and insurance. the stalling got a lot worse to where i stall out in the middle of an intersection trying to make a turn, very scary and dangerous. it was for certain that my transmission was going out. this was very irritating to me for at the time i was pregnant but the stress of my everyday life in 2 months had caused a miscarriage. i was irate but not belligerent, with the dealership about the way they tried to get around this expensive repair and pawn it off on me. i did in fact purchase the car as is but the deal went quickly and details were NOT disclosed with me, more like ran by me sparing the ugly details. i guess they felt GUILTY enough to purchase me a mechanical warranty and replace my transmission, a repair that took 2.5 months, REDICULOUS! during that time they gave me plenty grief not only was i paying for a car i couldn't drive but i was going broke trying to pay for transportation to work as well(the whole reason i got a car). i had to spend extra money even to visit my family out of town during the holidays. i live alone in columbus, no family. i moved out here for school in 2012.
When i finally got my car back on dec. 12th 2015(2.5 months from when it was dropped off the middle of oct.), it seemed to be everything i thought it would be at the start of my purchase. i was ready to put the stress behind me and pay off my car in bliss feeling safe about the warranty CAW had purchased me. but of course i couldn't expect it to be that easy with columbus auto warehouse. the trans was slipping again WITHIN A MONTH. this time i went to the Nissan dealership to get a REAL diagnostics report which i paid $115.00 for alone. but my co-pay on the warranty was only 100.00 so it wasn't a big deal if the trans needed work. Nissan gave me a report with a balance of $5200.00!!!! for the car to run right again. also stating that the warranty was VOID due to INCORRECT INSTALLATION and wrong CVT TRANSMISSION fluid!!
I barely made it home after the diagnostics and decided to park the car for good in feb. i contacted the dealership(caw) about the report from Nissan and they're mechanic refused to take responsibility claiming he got the supplies from Nissan itself, and the owner doesn't seem to care AT ALL. so i currently have a pending lawsuit on them for the car.
I contacted my leinholder at the beginning of march about a voluntary repossession, because i could no longer afford to pay on the car without being able to drive it because i have to pay for other means of transportation now. my credit is being ruined as we speak. i would have been much better off with a craigslist car! but i wanted quality which is why i didnt mind paying monthly. and the worst part of all this is that they sold me the car at 3 times the amount it was worth....i was cheated and taken advantage of on my first car purchase. a young women trying to build her credit only to end up in a worse spot almost a year later.
