MY cable bill seemed like it just kept rising and all we have is basic expanded.and i finally figured it out they told me to pay 227.and i did and the very next month my bill was 176.how do you get that, when you bill is suppose to be 47.00 a month. from the time you get cable they prorate you bill a month ahead every month. and if you shut it of what people don't no is the cable company still charges that one last month ahead. i couldn't figure it out at first, but i counted from when i got my cable to now and there's no way, if you ever check the receipt after you pay your balance off you will see, another amount owed. if they cut your cable off they also will send and leave that extra amount on your bill. can someone respond and tell me if this is legal,i thoght you can only be charged for services rendered. why are they allowed to rip people off.

Comcast does not make you pay for service you don't use

Sally, Honestly, if you were to disconnect your cable, since we bill a month in advance, we prorate your last bill so that you aren't paying for service you haven't used. Now, that bill may come later after you disconnect but if you walk in to a service center in person or ask one of us over the phone what your ending charges will be, you'll see that they're much lower than what your bill is. Say if you disconnect on the 20th and your billing period is from the 20th - 19th, then your last bill would be void since you haven't had service during that entire period. Hope that helps, Jane in Portland.

They charge you a month in advance because they don't want you running up a bill and not paying it. It's perfectly legal. I am betting you pay your rent a month in advance, along with your phone and your rent too. It's up to the individual company how to charge. Cable may be franchised, but it is not a necessity, so they could charge you 2 or 3 months in advance if they wanted to.

Your bill is supposed to be $47 but it was over $200 one month and $176 the next. And you paid it? Something doesn't add up. Did you miss paying a couple of months?
