My wife and I paid premiums for 26 years on a cancer insurance policy by Conseco Senior Health Insurance Company.  My wife was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer in early October 2008, was treated with chemotherapy from October through December 2008, then died on Jan 10, 2009, God bless her.

Conseco has given me so much trouble in handling my claims that it became apparent that they have been trying their best to have me give up.  They don't assign the case to one person for continuity, and they make it impossible to talk directly to their people making the decisions.

One example is that they withheld critical information from me in denying one claim, and another example is that they misquoted the policy in order to support one of their ridiculous arguments in denying another claim.  Although I'm not an attorney, I believe it's fraud, possibly criminal fraud, and it's well documented in writing.

Although they have paid some claims, there appears to be a conspiracy to deny other claims.  Yet they keep saying that customer service is their top priority.  I ask them to respond to my specific points or questions, but they just say the claim has been reviewed and rejected.

I can only imagine how they must be taking advantage of other senior policyholders who are not in a position to question their decisions the way I have.  I'm very interested in learning of other policyholders of Conseco insurance policies that are having similar problems.  This company was fined and penalized millions of dollars in 2008 for their improper handling of their long-term care insurance policies.

I wish to communicate with the person who filed this report so that I can get a copy of the names and addresses of the individuals they dealt with to get some satisfaction. I live in Seattle and cannot go to their office to confront them directly. My mother's claim has just been denied by "the review board" whoever that is.  It was denied on a bogus claim that her care administrator said she was independent. She is blind, sitting in a diaper and sleeping most of the day and night.  Care that is not provided by the required "certified" care giver is provided by family etc., etc. etc.   I also noticed that the Board of Trustees names are listed but no contact information for them. Anyone who has appealed their case and won, please contact me by email at (((REDACTED))) - you can probably save me a lot of time and research.

The ol' "it's in review" routine! I know it well, my friend.  Conseco has changed its name to Senior Health Insurance Company of Pennsylvania and, since the name change, has underpaid my mother $4,735.09 for the months of May through August.  I told them in early August they were doing it wrong and for two months now they keep saying "it's in review".  If you look it up you will find that Conseco, of all ltc insurance companies, has had the most complaints filed against it.  Since the name change they have only gone from bad to worse. A few years ago Conseco tried to claim that my mother does not have an annual increase of 5% in her daily benefit amount.  It took a long fight to keep them from ripping her off for what would be $207,299.55 through August if they had gotten away with it.  I've often wondered how many policyholders didn't have someone in their corner who fight.  My mother is almost gone now, due to Alzheimers.  I simply will not now or ever do business again with a company that has now or ever had any connection to Conseco.
