I received a phone call on Wednesday, 8/26/2015, about 9:00am. A lady told me that she had been trying to get in touch with me by mail (which I had not received), but I had not checked my mail in 2 or 3 days so I believed her. She explained that I had won 2nd place in the Consumer Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.
She asked if I was sitting down, so I said yes. Then she proceeds to tell me I have won $500,000.00! She double checks my address and asked if there is anyone with me & how I felt at the moment. She asked me how I plan on using this money I have won. So I tell her that I plan to pay off student loans, pay off credit cards, buy a house, take a vacation. Then she says that they needed to verify that I am a responsible person & wanted to know if I had any credit available on the credit cards. I told her that I had hundreds available.
She tells me that the check will be delivered on Friday, 8/28/2015, between 9:00 and 11:00am. She asked if I would be home at that time. I told her that I was scheduled to work, but would gladly take off that morning for the delivery. Then she asked me if I had a checking and savings, a banker, or someone to talk to about investments. She also asked if I was capable of taking this check to the bank by myself or if I needed some assistance. I told her that I was fully capable.
I asked her if this winning would be publicized in any way. She said no, that they protect the privacy of their winners.
She tells me to hang on while she transfers me to an advisor. Then the call is dropped.
The phone call showed up on my phone as (843)432-3555, being from Florence, SC. When I tried to call it back, I got a recording saying that this number has been disconnected or is no longer in service.
Of course, I took Friday off from work to see if this was a hoax. There was no delivery of winnings.
