I am an auto dealer, I have purchased cars through auctions for over 20 years. I have watched how the big dog takes out the little dog in that time. Copart is one of the auctions that came in, and pushed out the local auction. I have watched how copart has progressed into a world wide internet auction boasting accolades of customer service, state of the art purchasing, Forbes 500 etc. Well, if you want to go to a place where they are always right and you are always wrong or you want to get a stone faced look and all they can do is quote there corporate policies. Copart is where you want to go.
My Main Beef... Copart is in it for the $$$$$ Just like a shyster car lot. Misrepresenting the vehicles they sell to get top dollar! Now, more prolific then ever! I have thrown in the towel. You would think they would improve their vehicle processing to help the purchasers get accurate info to bid accordingly to its value. Especialy since it's viewed on the internet in a different state, where you cannot physically preview the vehicle. Salvaged cars I understand, there will be problems. But it's also a dumping ground for other dealer / private parties Junk. Copart takes pictures of the vehicle, never concentating on the main damage, they'll mark it Run & Drive even if there is a hole in the oil pan and no oil in it! A 10 yr old would know that noise isnt right. They wont disclose it in the notes.
Copart needs to hire prep people with some mechanicle knowledge to at least say on the info for the vehicle. No oil in engine, noise in engine, check engine light is on, smokes when started, no battery, Etc. (they dont have to diagnose it, just note what is obvious)
Over the years, I have complained to Coparts upper management many times about having a protocal to inventorying vehicles. No change.
Coparts fee's are over the top, they must have a think tank department to see what else they can charge a fee on.
Many of the vehicles I purchased from them that have been misrepesented, I would say to the manager this isnt right, I cannot take this car, run it back through the auction. Who gets the shaft, I do! Oh now the car gets listed as mechanical! Its a win win for Copart. All about the Money!
I have had my fair share of good deals through Copart, But now its too much of a "crap"- shoot as to what I will be getting.

I don't know anything about your company, you may be a very ethical outfit. However, what you are describing here pretty much describes an average persons visit to a used car lot. The same level of integrity and everything else. Not much fun is it?
