WARNING - Do not use this company!!!! The Better Business Bureau has an overall rating of "F" and I can personally attest to such a poor rating!
First, I was given a quote of $316 for a 3 man crew for 3 hours by John for a local one bedroom move. During my confirmation with John, an inventory was taken to include 29 items. Note: No boxes are included in the inventory, just large items such as furniture and equipment. I also made a $100 deposit when I made the reservation.
On the day of my move, the 3 man crew arrived within the scheduled window. The Lead Laborer explained the contract to me to include the cost of additional supplies such as tape, bubble wrap, etc. Next, the team moved 18 items and a total of 20 boxes, which we previously packed and sealed with tape. This was a significantly lower quantity of large items than originally given to John for my $316 quote/estimate.
Unbeknownst to me at the time during the move, the team used an excess of supplies which I was charged for! In some cases, I didnt even authorize. For example, tape was added to my already packed and sealed boxes! 3 large glass shelves and one 50" TV was an additional cost of $160 for bubble wrap. They even charged for the blankets which are used to protect furniture that you don't get to keep after you pay for them!
They crew was extremely slow, almost lagging and wasting time. It took a total of 5 hours for them to move 18 items and 20 boxes previously packed from my pickup address to the delivery address, all within 5 miles of one another. How is it that the estimate I was quoted for included less large items, but my time was extended by two additional hours?
As we arrived at the delivery address, the Lead Laborer decides to explain their company policy to me; which is that payment must be received prior to the truck being unloaded. This key policy was not discussed during the initial contract overview at the beginning of our move. So, I was given a total bill which calculated to over 3 times the initial estimate of $316 for a total of $900!!!
In summary, the following reasons contributed to my highly inflated bill: 1) The increased lag time from 3 hours (originally quoted for more items than actually picked up on the day of move) to 5 hours, 2) Misuse and overuse of supplies and 3) Johns lack of expertise and inability to provide me with an accurate quote.
I have moved the same items, if not more in the past from other moving companies and NEVER paid over $500 for a similar move. I was thoroughly disgusted with this company. After arguing with an unpleasant and unsympathetic lady and John on the phone, my total bill was reduced by $90! Cross Company Moving Company is a total rip-off. Do NOT USE!
