On May 8, 2013 I was involved in a terrifying automobile accident. I was coming off the interstate into a rest area when the DiSanto Jet Gas propane truck in front of me began backing upon the exit ramp! I only had time to lay on my horn to warn the negligent driver, Kajenik Eriksen, to no avail. My Suburban was subsequently totaled. I contacted my insurance company with all the information. My agent stated they would contact the at-fault insurance company (North River Insurance Company aka Crum & Forster aka Fairmont Specialty) & advised me to get a rental & let the rental company direct bill the at-fault insurance company.

May 9, 2013 I had my wife arrange the rental with Hertz while I was at work. She was contacted by Hertz within 2-3 days letting her know that they had contacted the insurance company & direct billing was all set, they just needed a final bit of information from the insurance company. Then we waited to be contacted by the at-fault insurance company. We were not contacted until the week of May 19th to arrange to have the Suburbans damaged assessed by an appraiser. The appraiser assessed the Suburban on May 23. I was contacted by Tamara Riecker from Fairmont Specialty on May 24 regarding the valuation of our vehicle. The valuation was low & since my wife handles all of our home accounts/business, I asked her to take over & this had now become a long, drawn-out, tedious, frustrating process. She researched & gathered documentation regarding the value of our vehicle & forwarded the information to Ms. Rieker. The valuation was adjusted accordingly & we agreed on $4,958.57. However, Ms. Rieker was much less accommodating on the rental. She repeatedly attempted to force us to cover part of the cost! We had already mitigated our damages by not accepting the comparable rental vehicle we were entitled to & that Hertz offered! We asked for the least costly rental with 4 doors (we have an infant & its easier to get her in & out of a vehicle when there are 4 doors).

It is not June 6 & this claim has drug on over a rental! I was not at fault in any way! I should not have to cover ANY costs whatsoever nor should I be inconvenienced any further! I am the one who was helplessly staring down a flammable/hazardous warning emblem as Jet Gass truck backed into me on the exit ramp of a highway!  To add insult to injury, the accident caused me to miss a mandatory training that, upon completion, would have moved me into an assistant manger position.  Now I have to wait on the training to be offered again.  We didn't even raise the potential lost wage issue, just wanted our vehicle & rental taken care of.
